Thanks. I forgot I had taken that. If it wasn’t the crows arguing with each other, it was the great-tailed grackles raising hell. They are louder than bluejays. Ever heard a grackle call? I hadn’t until I moved there. 😳
No I never heard grackle’s call. I never heard of Grackles until I read… of all books…IT by SK.
We had bats at dusk in the country and we would throw rocks up in the air…not at them…they would dive for them.

This doesn’t really do them justice but, it shows the example of the winding-up siren sound and crackling. When I first arrived, I thought people were calling them ‘crackles’ as that was appropriate for the noises they make. The can scare the shit out of you (I don’t think you can see the link on your phone app):
That one had a assortment of sounds…it sounded like a stapler at first. I like how they look… The one that has scared me was a Screech Owl…they are loud loud.

They are pretty.
I’ve never heard a Screech Owl. I’ve heard the ‘hoo-hoo’ across the river at nighttime from…whatever kind of owl is in this area. The craziest sound I’ve heard was an owl ‘hoo-hooing’ on the other side of the river and a wild turkey answering it on this side. THAT was a weird exchange.
A screach Owl is what it sounds like. It’s like a human sreaming…scared the hell out of me because it was close.
A turkey and an owl…sounds like a Grimms Fairy Tale.

I preferred to hear the mexican bats at dusk.

Grackles are in ‘IT’? I’ve never read the book.
I love to listen to their echo location.

I’ve had local hunters tell me it’s common for the two birds to talk to each other, across species.
Yikes on the Screech Owl. 😖

I do love crows. Something sinister about them, especially when the clouds are grey. Great photos

They tickle the hell out of me when they sound like they are arguing.
Thank you!
