Ok. So. No full moon pix for today. *sigh* We have been inundated with storms…again. We were bombarded with tornado warnings for five hours. An area just south of town close to I-40 was damaged. I am so glad it’s over.
That being said, I do have some shots of the waxing gibbous moon from April 28, 2018. I suspect I had the same problem during that full moon on April 29 (8:58pm EDT)…bad weather. I also have some waxing gibbous shots from April 16.

Pink Moon 2019 was at 100% illumination at 7:12am EDT.
April’s full moon is widely known as the Full Pink Moon, even though it doesn’t actually turn pastel pink as the name suggests. The Full Pink Moon’s name comes from the abundance of moss phlox, a common little pink flower that typically begins to spread across the ground in early spring. With that said, this creeping phlox is not the only thing that begins blooming during the Full Pink Moon.
In many Native American tribes, April’s full moon is associated with the bustling life and vibrant growth of spring. In Sioux culture, it’s named after the sprouting of red grass. The Comanche tribe called it the New Spring Moon and, both the Tlingit and Sioux tribes referred to it as the Budding Moon, after the new plants that begin to bud and sprout during spring. The Cherokee tribe even called it the Flower Moon (though that name is also sometimes used to refer to May’s full moon) and celebrated it for the growth of useful medicinal plants and magical herbs.

At the same time, April is a time when rivers and streams begin to fully thaw. Accordingly, the Shoshone tribe named April’s full moon the Full Melting Moon and the Arapaho tribe called it the Moon Where Ice Breaks in the River. It was also known as the Fish Moon because of the fish that would begin to swim upstream during this time. The Cherokees believed that flowing water was under the control of a spirit called the Long Man and would perform rituals to honor him during the Full Pink Moon. An example of a ritual like this was the Knee Deep Dance, based off the movements of the Water Frog. The Assiniboine tribe also called April’s full moon the Frog Moon.
Water is not the only thing that starts to flow during the Full Pink Moon. This is also the time where maple sap begins to flow in earnest, marking the true beginning of the incredibly important sugar-making season. The Abenaki tribes called April’s full moon the Sugar Maker Moon, and the Ojibwe called it the Sugarbush Moon. The Ojibwe tribe would journey north to their spring camps to tap maple syrup and engage in spear fishing. Maple syrup was integral to Ojibwe culture. Not only was it a crucial method of seasoning all their foods (they did not have access to salt at that time) but, it also symbolized harmony within the community and with the forces of nature around them.

The Full Pink Moon also holds religious significance in other cultures. For example, in Islāmic communities around the world, April’s full moon is celebrated as Bara’at Night, also known as the Night of Innocence. Muslims offer up prayers, asking God to absolve dead ancestors of their sins. They also prepare sweet desserts such as halwa or zarda and give it out to children, the needy and other members of their community. Meanwhile, Christians call it the Paschal Moon and celebrate the first Sunday after April’s full moon as Easter Sunday. It’s possible that the reason why the Easter Bunny brings eggs is because April’s full moon is also known as the Egg Moon, given that animals such as geese begin mating and laying eggs in spring.
While April is known for its showers and ever-warming temperatures, it is also known as a month when spring flowers begin to show up. The name came from the herb moss pink or wild ground phlox which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. As the name infers, the flowers are pink in color, thus the name for April’s full Moon. But no, the Moon itself won’t be turning pink.
Tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. Full Moon names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the full Moon names but, in general, the same ones were consistent among regional tribes. European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names.
Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon and, among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

Business Mathematics was the math that conquered me…or it could have been the cute girl that sat up front in that class…no it was the Business Mathematics. It was also my first year in college that I didn’t finish.
I was the language, English, history nut. I was good a certain kinds of art. Math killed me which would have destroyed any interest I had in science. I loved science but, any equations were lost on me.

East of Greensboro. My partner at work, Dave…he said I was the only person he had ever heard say ‘hair’ with two syllables. Apparently, I made it sound like ‘hayer’. Back when Kellie Pickler was on American Idol, I remember looking at my ex-Marine and saying to him “Geezus! Do I sound like that?” He said “Not anymore.” Kellie was from Albemarle, NC (in fact, a LOT of American Idol folks came from NC) and her accent horrified me. When I came home for a visit after living in TX for four years, I was at a restaurant with my dad, stepmom, stepsis & her hubby. I asked the waitress for some things and she said “You ain’t from around here, are ya’…” Well…I used to be. I had lost my NC accent.

I got really self concsious at a young age. I kept listening to Beatle interviews on tape and records I had…so I started to pick up things from them…reallly….and I would watch television and hear people talk…I’m thinking something isn’t right here.
I would hear people around me making “flower” or “shower” one syllable instead of two…btw Grammarly just corrected me because I spelled syllables wrong lol.

Sentence structure has always come naturally to me. I couldn’t tell you what a dangling participle is but, I intuitively know when something doesn’t flow or, make sense. My spelling is usually pretty good…except on this damn phone. My brain moves faster than my hands can keep up. I DO keep the dictionary app handy when I am unsure.

I came back from Atlanta and was pissed because of the driving….passing within inches of you doing 90….get back to nice Nashville and someone up ahead was honking and waving his hand out the window….Peach Plate.
Yeah. I can’t imagine living in either. I’ve been to each…once. Manhattan for one day in October 1991 & Atlanta, the summer of 1994…saw a Braves game. Saw The Underground. Only MLB game I’ve ever been to.
I was working in corporate travel & we got free tix to fly to Manhattan for one day. It was a bit of a joke, actually. We were in an executive-type short tour bus. I remember we had a very disinterested ‘guide’ (very loose term). “Look!” (pointing out of one very small window) “It’s the Empire State Building!” “Look!” (pointing out of an opposite small window…this bus had windows like the plane) “It’s the Statue of Liberty!” We barely saw s***. The driver, in an attempt to get us around in time & thru traffic, took some back streets. I’d never seen that much graffiti, cars on blocks with wheels missing and roads that nearly injured us all. I swore I would never complain about my hometown’s road conditions ever again.
We did get to wander around an FAO Schwarz & a Macy’s (long before those things came south). These stores were, like four or five levels tall. I’d never seen anything like that. I came from a town where the mall was one story & our biggest excitement came from heading to Greensboro on Friday nights. I still have a scarf I got at that Macy’s.
I encountered the street vendors…the dudes with the trenchcoats lined with stuff to sell (that was a culture shock). Got a hotdog from one of those street carts. THAT was cool.
The flight out of Laguardia was COOL. Once we were air borne, the plane turned & the lit up city was a spectacular view. Never forget that…
I was a nervous wreck, too. I’d never flown & was nauseated on the flight in. Flying out, I was elated. Even today, when I fly, I get giddy & giggle during take off.

My first flight was to Chicago in 1998 to a 3 day business seminar when I was a graphic artist. I was scared to death on the takeoff. I was by myself and tried to read but could not concentrate. I’m deathly afraid of heights but I could look out the window wiht no problem…but can NOT look over a ledge on a building.
I strolled around downtown and it was a lot of fun…a lof of delis and mom and pop grocery stores.
I would love to go to Cooperstown NY to see the baseball hall of fame…and to Woodstock to see the Pink House made famous by The Band.

I have a little trouble with heights. I THOUGHT I was going to help an ex put a roof on the house. BIG FAT NOPE. I don’t have a problem with rides & lifts but, I have insane trouble with steep, high hills. Looking over the edge of a tall building unnerves me a little but, I’m good if I have something to hold onto.
When I was young I worked at a factory and would be ride on a pallet picked up by a towmotor…as long as I was sitting down on it I was fine…but NO ROOFS.
I can’t do rollercoasters either…that drop… Now spinning…I could spin all day. If I strike it rich…a Tilt’A’Whirl will be in my back yard lol.

Carowinds used to have something called the Open Bucket. Spin you around & drop the floor. You would stagger coming out. Heh.
The Stratosphere in Vegas unnerved me a bit, too. Leaning forward to look out, you’re on heavy glass. Now, that being said, I did NOT want ride the rollercoaster on top nor do I like straight drops, which is on the top with the rollercoaster below it. Yeah. No. I’m adventurous but, not THAT brave.
That ride I may could handle since it’s not too high… yea the old wooden roller coaster we had in Nashville called the Skyliner broke me from ever riding one again.

I grew up going to Myrtle Beach as a kid. There was a really old pavilion in the southern part that had a wooden rollercoaster that, by today’s standards, would be tame.
I’ve heard of the Skyliner. And, in the late 80s, I rode everything @ Kings Dominion.
Oh you got to grow up near or on a beach? That would be cool to me…I thought about looking for jobs in Florida years ago…yea I know about the hurricanes but still.

I’ve met French people at Panama City and asked them….why would you travel here when you have the French Riviera? They told me this beach was better.

PCB is pure white sand…it has a lot of tourists but I do love it…great places to eat…

My paternal GPs had friends in Myrtle Beach. They had grown up together. The other couple had a small, family type two-story motel/house thing. That side of my family always went to the beach, several times a year. My dad hated it. He always complained “Every time I go down there, I stub my toe on something in the surf, get sand up my ass and my nose gets burned.” My dad was NOT a traveler. He was a homebody. He was pissed when my mom & I went to Carowinds in 1976 and to Disneyworld (with her brother & sister-in-law) in 1977. He didn’t want to go and thought we needed to stay home with him. *eyes rolling*
Past all that, the thing that all graduating classes did was…take off to Myrtle Beach for graduation. 1984 was a BLAST!

My buddies and me picked a cool sounding place to go….CoCoa Beach…we didn’t worry about distance…15 hours one way in a 83 Toyota Celica…4 guys…wrecked a hotel room…had a ball.
Cocoa Beach because the name sounded cool…yes we were that stupid. We should have went to Pensacola …. a 6-7 hour drive and called it a day but nooooo…15 hours.
That sounds fun…the beer cans… we emptied garbage in the room and tried to pitch the tv…but it was bolted down…. I’m so glad we didn’t…and that is when we discovered if you tipped a coke machine…tadaaaa…free cokes.
I loved that car…it was a red 83 Celica Sports Coupe with black racing stripes…I put that car through hell and it still ran fine.
I remember those days…back when cans were pop-tops.
My ’85 was a metallic tan/gold base model…an ST…4-speed. When the temperature dropped below 30°, she would pop up her own headlights. Heh. I miss the hell outta that car & the ’91 Eagle Talon that came after it. BOTH were tough, tough cars. Change the oil regularly, use fuel injector cleaner and replace all belts & hoses @ 100,000 mi… The Talon, tho…you’d better replace that timing chain @ 60,000 & no later per a Mitsubishi mechanic. I didn’t have a TSi but, I did have the dual overhead cam. Sucker ran like a scalded dog…5 sp…also tan/gold metallic with a black racing stripe across the hood scoop.
I loved my Celica…I think it was 5 speed….drove it in the ground. Then I got my favorite car ever in 89…1983 Mazda RX7 Rotorary engine. But don’t let my fancy car talk fool you….I don’t know much about them but the rear end went out on that car 3 times and I learned quick on how to change them. It was too powerful for it I guess.
I heard good things about the Talons…I had a Probe around that time and an Eclipse a little later.
I remember the ’83 RX7. I went to HS with a girl who got a new one from her parents in our senior year. Obnoxious cheerleader. And, @ 53…she is still obnoxious.
Oh, the jokes about the Ford Probe. I remember an ex-boyfriend traded his badass Toyota Supra for a Probe. I just scratched my head & walked away.

The Eclipse was the newer style… black paint job and black inside. In 2001 I was driving on the interstate and a rock came up and hit my oil filter and the next thing I knew the engine was clicking…. I got off the interstate and put oil in it just to watch it gush out of the filter… It never ran the same again and locked up a couple of years later.
I got my 83 RX7 in 89 but it was cool… metallic gold…
I know the probe got the jokes but it was a great running car… never had any trouble.
All I heard was a “tick” and that was it…The filter was exposed on that car. It was probably one in a million…By the time I knew what was happening the oil pressure was falling and I limped it off the interstate…I was livid…2am working helpdesk.
I would like a good truck…I have a 85 S10 right now…pretty much for a trash truck. I havent drove it in a while.
I was just thinking…odd for a filter to be that vulnerable to a rock on the road. The filters I’ve always dealt with were higher up (in my younger years, I changed my own oil, tho I hate crawling under cars…prefer lifts of some sort)…not hanging down close to the road. Bad design. That would’ve pissed me off, too.
My ex & I picked that truck up in Liberty Hill, TX…a damn spot in the road with a used vehicle lot of nothing but trucks (hey…it’s Texas). It was purchased new by a local rancher & once depreciated, he sold it for a new one. It was a 1999 model, five years old with only 42,000 miles on it. Base model…white…pivotal side view mirrors instead of telescoping…no carpeting…supercab XLT with a towing package. No diesel. It was a farm truck & I was in love. I drove that thing like a race car! LOL! Missed shifting gears, tho. I could kick my own ass for selling it. BUT, I am pleased with my 2008 Nissan Frontier. Gun metal grey, 6sp., 6 cyl., supercab, 4 x 4…
The car I had in between my trucks was a 2010 Chevy Cobalt, 2dr, 5sp. It was the first new car I had ever owned. Bought it in North Houston, trading in my F250. Gas prices were going up, so… The damn thing didn’t have air conditioning on it! WTF? You want me to buy this? I suggest that you put air on it for FREE. It took them three weeks to do it…after market air conditioning takes a while…apparently. 🙄
One week after taking possession of it, a texting teenager in a 4 dr. 1998 Lumina rear ended me and shoved me up under a Mitsubishi Montero. In her defense, it was raining & rain in central TX only manages to loosen up all the road oil…not wash it away. The car was never the same…not that I really knew what ‘same’ was after a week. But, the wiring was screwy. Was it screwy out of the factory or was it the accident. I will never know. The only thing I liked about that car was the satellite radio.
The mechanic told me he had never seen that happen before and the rocks projection was perfect. I do remember that sound when the rock hit.
That truck sounds cools and what you have now sounds cool… I’m back to plain… I did buy a new Mini Cooper in 2008 and loved it but off all years… 2008 they changed engines and I ended up with a dropped valve 5 years later. That was the first new car I ever had.
I now have a 2013 Sonic and 2000 Jeep Wrangler which I’ll never sale… too much fun.
My son has a 2000 Nissan Xterra which I love…even though it’s old…. our driveway is a parking lot with the S-10 also.

I guess Cobalts are alright. I never really knew. My dad bought one of the early 4dr models. He didn’t love it but, my dad isn’t known for taking care of things so… If he did, he’d still have his 1972 black Charger.
I think my Cobalt had been transferred from WAY up north, like Wisconsin or something. My Talon had a Michigan title when I bought it. It had been a teen’s car and he was down here for Duke or UNC or something. This kid had gotten into a minor wreck…busted out one headlight & one taillight. The story I got was, he didn’t want the car, anymore and cried to daddy. The towing company that retrieved the car took it to a friend that ran a salvage yard. Daddy up in Michigan didn’t know anyone to tell them where to take it. It wasn’t a salvage because, working for DMV Enforcement at the time, one of my Inspectors knew the history of the car & knew the salvage owner (that was part of our LE function…make sure salvage autos were OK & parts aren’t stolen). Daddy sold the car to the salvage yard & got his kid a new car. I got a 2 yr old car with repaired minor damage & low mileage, CHEAP.
Mini Coopers are so much fun. I would seek out curvy roads just to fly down them. You can hang a curve with them like no other. It’s more room inside than people think also.
Yes I love Jeeps and they retain their value as well as Minis. The 2000 that I have is a 5 speed…love taking the top off and going places.

The best deal I got was a cheap car but I use it to drive my journey to work without wearing about my Sonic. A guy here asked me a couple of years ago if Bailey needed a first car…I said no he has one…he said he was selling his 2006 Chevy Aveo for 1000…I asked how many miles…he said 70K… I asked him do you mean 170K? Nope 70K…I bought it…been driving it back and forth to work for 2 years. How could I pass that up?

When I was DL Examiner, I was headed out for a driver test & saw a guy headed to his Mini. The plate said ‘TARDIS’ & I told him, giggling, that it was cool. He replied in a Brit accent “But, of course. Minis are bigger on the inside than they are on the outside.” I giggled all thru my driver test. The driver was pleased that his Examiner was in such a good mood.
Cornering…yeah. I got to drive my buddy’s Vette in Houston. Those things will take a 90° turn @ 35/40 mph. They come with factory tires that are a 40 width. Also hopped in as a passenger with a professional racecar driver @ Texas’ old track near Bryan/College Station (A&M). DAMN. I wish I’d had proper belting. I was in HIS Vette & I could feel my skin sliding around my skull in the turns. Amazing G-forces but, I wish I had been strapped in better. WORE my ass out & cramped my right hand. There was nothing to hold onto except a door handle.

He trashed the Charger, let it sit for years & then sold it. I learned to drive in it. It was an odd Charger, too. I was one of the last to roll out of the factory for that year…date stamped June 1972. Black, black Landau top, t-bar slap-shift, 318 engine with the transmission of a racecar. It wasn’t a standard Charger. It was made with pieces & parts from a DCSE but, didn’t have the DCSE price or markings. I begged him for it but, he refused.

Honestly, I think Vettes should come equipped with the same amount of “Oh S***” handles you find in Jeeps…you know, on the dash above the glove compartment, hanging down from the doors, large-inside door grips… That car moved so quick, I didn’t even have time to consider trying to suck upholstery up my ass to hold on! Apologies for my crude humor. It’s my background.
I liked the old Vettes…the smaller ones. I’d have had the front end of a Stingray torn off…too long for me. Now, all the Vettes are ugly. Of course, MOST cars today are ugly to me.
I like crude humor…that is me. Yea you have to have them in jeeps because riding in a jeep is like riding in a wagon… the new ones are probably smooth but not the older ones….but I like that.
All cars today look just alike. There is no personality in them…houses are like that also. People called the seventies tacky…and they may have been but at least things were different. The 80s were different also…boxy cars but I liked a lot of them.
Cars used to be designed with flair…what was cool looking. Then, they were designed for fuel efficiency but, still had style. Now, it’s all aerodynamic space-age yuck. And, I agree about houses. I prefer the older homes with pretty architecture…the ones with good bones.

You know, the only time I made an ‘A’ in math was Business Math in my freshman year of college. And, that Prof. was a TRIP. He drove a pale yellow VW Bug with a Rolls Royce package on it. He had the craziest mustache I have ever seen, told the dumbest, funniest jokes and bounced when he walked.
Everything else, I sucked at. My Algebra II teacher in HS, junior year…I barely passed that class with a C-. Had the same teacher in my senior year for Computer Science (with the Apple IIs) and made all ‘A’s. I loved her but, the Algebra II…OY. Just shoot me.

See for some reason I liked Algebra…English I was terrible…come on…I live in a small town in TN. The commas, spelling, etc…I’m still not good…thank the heavens for grammarly. It makes me feel stupid…
All of our neighbors were very country…but I learned as I grew not to talk with a strong accent…people who talk to me think I’m from Oklahoma???? I’ve been told that more than once. I don’t know why.
Business Mathematics was the math that conquered me…or it could have been the cute girl that sat up front in that class…no it was the Business Mathematics. It was also my first year in college that I didn’t finish.

I was the language, English, history nut. I was good a certain kinds of art. Math killed me which would have destroyed any interest I had in science. I loved science but, any equations were lost on me.

You know, when I moved to Texas, native Texans said “You’re Southern but, not Texan.” One sharp lady in a fabric store said “You sound just like a woman I deal with in Greensboro.” She was pleased with herself when I told her that I grew up 20 min. East of Greensboro. My partner at work, Dave…he said I was the only person he had ever heard say ‘hair’ with two syllables. Apparently, I made it sound like ‘hayer’. Back when Kellie Pickler was on American Idol, I remember looking at my ex-Marine and saying to him “Geezus! Do I sound like that?” He said “Not anymore.” Kellie was from Albemarle, NC (in fact, a LOT of American Idol folks came from NC) and her accent horrified me. When I came home for a visit after living in TX for four years, I was at a restaurant with my dad, stepmom, stepsis & her hubby. I asked the waitress for some things and she said “You ain’t from around here, are ya’…” Well…I used to be. I had lost my NC accent.
It was the cute girl. LOL!

I got really self concsious at a young age. I kept listening to Beatle interviews on tape and records I had…so I started to pick up things from them…reallly….and I would watch television and hear people talk…I’m thinking something isn’t right here.
I would hear people around me making “flower” or “shower” one syllable instead of two…btw Grammarly just corrected me because I spelled syllables wrong lol.
I’m not ashamed of being southern…I just wanted to pronounce things better and talk where people would not know where I came from…apparently I ended up with a little of an Okie accent. I don’t know how the hell that happened. I’ve never set foot there.
Some southern still comes out sometimes…it’s unavoidable.

Sentence structure has always come naturally to me. I couldn’t tell you what a dangling participle is but, I intuitively know when something doesn’t flow or, make sense. My spelling is usually pretty good…except on this damn phone. My brain moves faster than my hands can keep up. I DO keep the dictionary app handy when I am unsure.
Carrie Underwood Fisher is an Okie from Muskogee (and, now, a ‘Carrie Fisher’ actress, LOL).
Going from Liverpool accents to TN accents…the comparisons would be confusing to a kid. Just imagine if they were all Scottish. OY.
I will NEVER apologize for being Southern. You should hear my dad say ‘ambulance’. I comes out ‘amba-lance’. He’s also really bad about saying ‘hisself’ instead of ‘himself’. I wanna scream.

Try grammarly on computer…I’m not kidding it is nice and I HATE 3rd party programs…but it works.
I’ll talk to my sister and I never think of her as country but she is big time when I listen. It still comes out in me if I’m around other people that talk like that…
LIke “Turn It On”…I’ve heard people say “turn it own”… I’m proud that people here are for the most part courteous…unlike what I’ve encountered in Ohio and other places.

Yeah. I can’t imagine living in either. I’ve been to each…once. Manhattan for one day in October 1991 & Atlanta, the summer of 1994…saw a Braves game. Saw The Underground. Only MLB game I’ve ever been to.

I was working in corporate travel & we got free tix to fly to Manhattan for one day. It was a bit of a joke, actually. We were in an executive-type short tour bus. I remember we had a very disinterested ‘guide’ (very loose term). “Look!” (pointing out of one very small window) “It’s the Empire State Building!” “Look!” (pointing out of an opposite small window…this bus had windows like the plane) “It’s the Statue of Liberty!” We barely saw s***. The driver, in an attempt to get us around in time & thru traffic, took some back streets. I’d never seen that much graffiti, cars on blocks with wheels missing and roads that nearly injured us all. I swore I would never complain about my hometown’s road conditions ever again.
We did get to wander around an FAO Schwarz & a Macy’s (long before those things came south). These stores were, like four or five levels tall. I’d never seen anything like that. I came from a town where the mall was one story & our biggest excitement came from heading to Greensboro on Friday nights. I still have a scarf I got at that Macy’s.
I encountered the street vendors…the dudes with the trenchcoats lined with stuff to sell (that was a culture shock). Got a hotdog from one of those street carts. THAT was cool.
The flight out of Laguardia was COOL. Once we were air borne, the plane turned & the lit up city was a spectacular view. Never forget that…
I was a nervous wreck, too. I’d never flown & was nauseated on the flight in. Flying out, I was elated. Even today, when I fly, I get giddy & giggle during take off.

My first flight was to Chicago in 1998 to a 3 day business seminar when I was a graphic artist. I was scared to death on the takeoff. I was by myself and tried to read but could not concentrate. I’m deathly afraid of heights but I could look out the window wiht no problem…but can NOT look over a ledge on a building.
I strolled around downtown and it was a lot of fun…a lof of delis and mom and pop grocery stores.
I would love to go to Cooperstown NY to see the baseball hall of fame…and to Woodstock to see the Pink House made famous by The Band.

I’ve seen the inside of O’Hare but, that’s it.
I have a little trouble with heights. I THOUGHT I was going to help an ex put a roof on the house. BIG FAT NOPE. I don’t have a problem with rides & lifts but, I have insane trouble with steep, high hills. Looking over the edge of a tall building unnerves me a little but, I’m good if I have something to hold onto.
Those would be interesting things to see.

When I was young I worked at a factory and would be ride on a pallet picked up by a towmotor…as long as I was sitting down on it I was fine…but NO ROOFS.
I can’t do rollercoasters either…that drop… Now spinning…I could spin all day. If I strike it rich…a Tilt’A’Whirl will be in my back yard lol.

Carowinds used to have something called the Open Bucket. Spin you around & drop the floor. You would stagger coming out. Heh.
The Stratosphere in Vegas unnerved me a bit, too. Leaning forward to look out, you’re on heavy glass. Now, that being said, I did NOT want ride the rollercoaster on top nor do I like straight drops, which is on the top with the rollercoaster below it. Yeah. No. I’m adventurous but, not THAT brave.
I liked Tilt ‘A’ Whirls.

I grew up going to Myrtle Beach as a kid. There was a really old pavilion in the southern part that had a wooden rollercoaster that, by today’s standards, would be tame.
I’ve heard of the Skyliner. And, in the late 80s, I rode everything @ Kings Dominion.

I’ve never gone to Myrtle Beach. I’ve always gone to Panama City. I wouldn’t mind at all going.
I’ve met French people at Panama City and asked them….why would you travel here when you have the French Riviera? They told me this beach was better.
I want to go to Myrtle Beach though…it’s about the same distance away I believe.

My paternal GPs had friends in Myrtle Beach. They had grown up together. The other couple had a small, family type two-story motel/house thing. That side of my family always went to the beach, several times a year. My dad hated it. He always complained “Every time I go down there, I stub my toe on something in the surf, get sand up my ass and my nose gets burned.” My dad was NOT a traveler. He was a homebody. He was pissed when my mom & I went to Carowinds in 1976 and to Disneyworld (with her brother & sister-in-law) in 1977. He didn’t want to go and thought we needed to stay home with him. *eyes rolling*
Past all that, the thing that all graduating classes did was…take off to Myrtle Beach for graduation. 1984 was a BLAST!

Cocoa Beach because the name sounded cool…yes we were that stupid. We should have went to Pensacola …. a 6-7 hour drive and called it a day but nooooo…15 hours.
That sounds fun…the beer cans… we emptied garbage in the room and tried to pitch the tv…but it was bolted down…. I’m so glad we didn’t…and that is when we discovered if you tipped a coke machine…tadaaaa…free cokes.
I loved that car…it was a red 83 Celica Sports Coupe with black racing stripes…I put that car through hell and it still ran fine.

I remember those days…back when cans were pop-tops.
My ’85 was a metallic tan/gold base model…an ST…4-speed. When the temperature dropped below 30°, she would pop up her own headlights. Heh. I miss the hell outta that car & the ’91 Eagle Talon that came after it. BOTH were tough, tough cars. Change the oil regularly, use fuel injector cleaner and replace all belts & hoses @ 100,000 mi… The Talon, tho…you’d better replace that timing chain @ 60,000 & no later per a Mitsubishi mechanic. I didn’t have a TSi but, I did have the dual overhead cam. Sucker ran like a scalded dog…5 sp…also tan/gold metallic with a black racing stripe across the hood scoop.

I loved my Celica…I think it was 5 speed….drove it in the ground. Then I got my favorite car ever in 89…1983 Mazda RX7 Rotorary engine. But don’t let my fancy car talk fool you….I don’t know much about them but the rear end went out on that car 3 times and I learned quick on how to change them. It was too powerful for it I guess.
I heard good things about the Talons…I had a Probe around that time and an Eclipse a little later.

The Eclipse was the newer style… black paint job and black inside. In 2001 I was driving on the interstate and a rock came up and hit my oil filter and the next thing I knew the engine was clicking…. I got off the interstate and put oil in it just to watch it gush out of the filter… It never ran the same again and locked up a couple of years later.
I got my 83 RX7 in 89 but it was cool… metallic gold…
I know the probe got the jokes but it was a great running car… never had any trouble.

All I heard was a “tick” and that was it…The filter was exposed on that car. It was probably one in a million…By the time I knew what was happening the oil pressure was falling and I limped it off the interstate…I was livid…2am working helpdesk.
I would like a good truck…I have a 85 S10 right now…pretty much for a trash truck. I havent drove it in a while.

I was just thinking…odd for a filter to be that vulnerable to a rock on the road. The filters I’ve always dealt with were higher up (in my younger years, I changed my own oil, tho I hate crawling under cars…prefer lifts of some sort)…not hanging down close to the road. Bad design. That would’ve pissed me off, too.
My ex & I picked that truck up in Liberty Hill, TX…a damn spot in the road with a used vehicle lot of nothing but trucks (hey…it’s Texas). It was purchased new by a local rancher & once depreciated, he sold it for a new one. It was a 1999 model, five years old with only 42,000 miles on it. Base model…white…pivotal side view mirrors instead of telescoping…no carpeting…supercab XLT with a towing package. No diesel. It was a farm truck & I was in love. I drove that thing like a race car! LOL! Missed shifting gears, tho. I could kick my own ass for selling it. BUT, I am pleased with my 2008 Nissan Frontier. Gun metal grey, 6sp., 6 cyl., supercab, 4 x 4…
The car I had in between my trucks was a 2010 Chevy Cobalt, 2dr, 5sp. It was the first new car I had ever owned. Bought it in North Houston, trading in my F250. Gas prices were going up, so… The damn thing didn’t have air conditioning on it! WTF? You want me to buy this? I suggest that you put air on it for FREE. It took them three weeks to do it…after market air conditioning takes a while…apparently. 🙄
One week after taking possession of it, a texting teenager in a 4 dr. 1998 Lumina rear ended me and shoved me up under a Mitsubishi Montero. In her defense, it was raining & rain in central TX only manages to loosen up all the road oil…not wash it away. The car was never the same…not that I really knew what ‘same’ was after a week. But, the wiring was screwy. Was it screwy out of the factory or was it the accident. I will never know. The only thing I liked about that car was the satellite radio.
S10s were tough.

The mechanic told me he had never seen that happen before and the rocks projection was perfect. I do remember that sound when the rock hit.
That truck sounds cools and what you have now sounds cool… I’m back to plain… I did buy a new Mini Cooper in 2008 and loved it but off all years… 2008 they changed engines and I ended up with a dropped valve 5 years later. That was the first new car I ever had.
I now have a 2013 Sonic and 2000 Jeep Wrangler which I’ll never sale… too much fun.
My son has a 2000 Nissan Xterra which I love…even though it’s old…. our driveway is a parking lot with the S-10 also.

I’d love to have a Jeep. Far too many of them have auto transmissions these days. I can’t afford a new one & 95% of the used ones are all automatics…at, least around here. I bought my truck when I was still working. I’d really like to pay it off, keep it & get a jeep, too but…no job & bad credit.
Ken has a 2013 GMC silver Sierra & had a black 2001 Chevy Z71. My buddy Ray has a silver GMC Canyon. All trucks in the driveway…
I guess Cobalts are alright. I never really knew. My dad bought one of the early 4dr models. He didn’t love it but, my dad isn’t known for taking care of things so… If he did, he’d still have his 1972 black Charger.
I think my Cobalt had been transferred from WAY up north, like Wisconsin or something. My Talon had a Michigan title when I bought it. It had been a teen’s car and he was down here for Duke or UNC or something. This kid had gotten into a minor wreck…busted out one headlight & one taillight. The story I got was, he didn’t want the car, anymore and cried to daddy. The towing company that retrieved the car took it to a friend that ran a salvage yard. Daddy up in Michigan didn’t know anyone to tell them where to take it. It wasn’t a salvage because, working for DMV Enforcement at the time, one of my Inspectors knew the history of the car & knew the salvage owner (that was part of our LE function…make sure salvage autos were OK & parts aren’t stolen). Daddy sold the car to the salvage yard & got his kid a new car. I got a 2 yr old car with repaired minor damage & low mileage, CHEAP.

Mini Coopers are so much fun. I would seek out curvy roads just to fly down them. You can hang a curve with them like no other. It’s more room inside than people think also.
Yes I love Jeeps and they retain their value as well as Minis. The 2000 that I have is a 5 speed…love taking the top off and going places.
Rich Dads… gotta love it. That is great when you know the history of a car.
The best deal I got was a cheap car but I use it to drive my journey to work without wearing about my Sonic. A guy here asked me a couple of years ago if Bailey needed a first car…I said no he has one…he said he was selling his 2006 Chevy Aveo for 1000…I asked how many miles…he said 70K… I asked him do you mean 170K? Nope 70K…I bought it…been driving it back and forth to work for 2 years. How could I pass that up?
A 72 black Charger… whew… I would love to have that.

When I was DL Examiner, I was headed out for a driver test & saw a guy headed to his Mini. The plate said ‘TARDIS’ & I told him, giggling, that it was cool. He replied in a Brit accent “But, of course. Minis are bigger on the inside than they are on the outside.” I giggled all thru my driver test. The driver was pleased that his Examiner was in such a good mood.
Cornering…yeah. I got to drive my buddy’s Vette in Houston. Those things will take a 90° turn @ 35/40 mph. They come with factory tires that are a 40 width. Also hopped in as a passenger with a professional racecar driver @ Texas’ old track near Bryan/College Station (A&M). DAMN. I wish I’d had proper belting. I was in HIS Vette & I could feel my skin sliding around my skull in the turns. Amazing G-forces but, I wish I had been strapped in better. WORE my ass out & cramped my right hand. There was nothing to hold onto except a door handle.
God, I’d love to have a Jeep…

He trashed the Charger, let it sit for years & then sold it. I learned to drive in it. It was an odd Charger, too. I was one of the last to roll out of the factory for that year…date stamped June 1972. Black, black Landau top, t-bar slap-shift, 318 engine with the transmission of a racecar. It wasn’t a standard Charger. It was made with pieces & parts from a DCSE but, didn’t have the DCSE price or markings. I begged him for it but, he refused.
My 2008 Frontier only has 109,000 miles.

I always heard that about Vettes. Thats the one car I’ve never rode in or drove. I like the older ones like the Stingrays. The RX7 I felt like my head was in the back….it has such a take off. The Minis will fly also.

Honestly, I think Vettes should come equipped with the same amount of “Oh S***” handles you find in Jeeps…you know, on the dash above the glove compartment, hanging down from the doors, large-inside door grips… That car moved so quick, I didn’t even have time to consider trying to suck upholstery up my ass to hold on! Apologies for my crude humor. It’s my background.
I liked the old Vettes…the smaller ones. I’d have had the front end of a Stingray torn off…too long for me. Now, all the Vettes are ugly. Of course, MOST cars today are ugly to me.

I like crude humor…that is me. Yea you have to have them in jeeps because riding in a jeep is like riding in a wagon… the new ones are probably smooth but not the older ones….but I like that.
All cars today look just alike. There is no personality in them…houses are like that also. People called the seventies tacky…and they may have been but at least things were different. The 80s were different also…boxy cars but I liked a lot of them.
I thought that name was different at the time…

Cars used to be designed with flair…what was cool looking. Then, they were designed for fuel efficiency but, still had style. Now, it’s all aerodynamic space-age yuck. And, I agree about houses. I prefer the older homes with pretty architecture…the ones with good bones.

I’m with ya’. There is this huge push for groupthink. It starts in school & gets worse from there. God forbid anyone should speak up or speak out.

I’ve taught Bailey to march to his own drummer….and he does for the most part.
Oh yes and last night.. tonight and tomorrow those NFL fools. It took me an hour and a half to get home….usually 45 – 60 minutes

Neat pics! Great write up, too! Lots I didn’t know.
On another note – glad you are ok! Not sure where you are, but I know a friend of mine in Chattanooga was hit pretty hard with storms and a tree fell through his roof and took out an entire room! Not sure whether it was a tornado or not – crazy weather for sure.
