Flashback Friday: 1966

Pencil Portrait
Artist: Wendy T. Wallace
Drawn: 11-25-1994

Fifty-three years ago…10:38am. I did a post last year with more background information and some nostalgia.

I stopped posting on July 15, as the following day, I wound up in the ER. As my maternal grandmother would say “I had a spell with my heart.” Luckily, it turned out to be nothing life threatening but, it scared me. After six weeks of rest and some lifestyle changes, I’m good.

I’m not fond of a lot of fanfare regarding my birthday. I prefer to have the day to myself. I’m mostly an introvert but, I can be extroverted for short periods of time. Here is a personal toast to still being upright and walking.

My likeness was sketched by artist Wendy T. Wallace of Greensboro, back in November of 1994. I sat for her at a Christmas shopping festival at the Greensboro Coliseum…as I recall. This was ten years after high school graduation.

Well, a very Happy Birthday young lady! Glad you are feeling better…you were missed.

Great drawing…a lot of hair there…I do see some Lindsay Wagner

I checked out her art…I really liked how she draws light…it looks like the actual sun is providing the light in a few.

Thank you. It is good to be feeling better.

Wendy is an incredible artist. I WISH I could draw like that. And, I WISH I looked like Lindsay Wagner. I always wanted her to be my mom. She and I are built the same and, are the same height. My hair is VERY dark, tho. It is still ‘thickish’ but, nothing like when I was in my 20s & 30s.

Wendy was a lovely lady to talk to.

She is very talented. I loved those paintings the article showed.
It was the hair that reminded me of her.
Lindsey still looks good at her age.

I read where she stated that she had a vision and was influenced to paint the Christ era art. Wow.

Lindsay had gorgeous hair but, I always thought my hair looked more like Lynda Carter’s, esp. her 1st season as WW (those two are buddies, BTW…).

Yes she does and ditto Lynda.

The vision told her correct because she is great.

Now I have the Wonder Women theme in my head.

I envy sketchers … I lack the gene, apparently. I sure tried …
Glad to see you back. I do know a little bit about those sudden upheavals when the ticker decides to change your lifestyle. Also understand about celebrating b’days privately, but best wishes for the year to come. The fifties were my most satisfying years. I wouldn’t mind repeating them.

I’ve done quite a bit of sketching over the years. I was never very good @ people, tho. I could do landscapes & still art fairly well. I’ve painted, too. I suck @ watercolors. My mom had me in every kind of art you could think of…from charcoals & pastels to digging up dirt in my art teacher’s backyard for sculpting. I’ve even done burlap-backed clay gouging to print images with. My fave will always be photography, tho.

I have an arrhythmia that is mild but, it gets aggravated when my electrolytes get out of whack. As I have aged, I’ve had to swear off caffeine and I have to be careful with alcohol. I’m also an ex-smoker so, THAT didn’t help. I was a light smoker in my teens, heavier in my 20s & 30s, quit for 12 years, started back up for 5 more years and, finally, gave up. I am my own worst enemy. *sigh*

Thanks for the well wishes. I need all I can get.

I wanna be eight years old, again…no bills, no jobs, no ailments, no complicated relationships… Just ice cream, imagination, swimming, snowmen, riding bikes, hide & seek, jump rope, dinner and a bath. No worries…

You are WAY too kind! LOL! When she was done and turned it around for me to see, all I could think was “OMG. I have a FAT FACE!” Now, I wish I had that face, again. Wrinkles, dry & drooping skin, hair thinning… Yikes.

Thank you for the well wishes. Most appreciated!
