Eighty-three years ago, today, the Nazi German dirigible, the LZ-129 Hindenburg, exploded at Naval Air Station Lakehurst in Manchester Township, New Jersey.

[T]he largest dirigible ever built, [it burst] into flames upon touching its mooring mast […]. There were 35 fatalities (13 passengers and 22 crewmen) from the 97 people on board (36 passengers and 61 crewmen) and an additional fatality on the ground.

The rigid airship, often known as the Zeppelin after the last name of its innovator, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, was developed by the Germans in the late 19th century. [It] had a light framework of metal girders that protected a gas-filled interior [of] highly flammable hydrogen gas, vulnerable to explosion.

On May 3, the Hindenburg left Frankfurt, Germany, for a journey across the Atlantic to Lakehurst’s Navy Air Base. While attempting to moor, […] the airship suddenly burst into flames, probably after a spark ignited its hydrogen core. Rapidly falling 200 feet to the ground, the hull of the airship incinerated within seconds. [M]ost of the survivors suffered substantial injuries.

The disaster was the subject of newsreel coverage, photographs and [radio announcer] Herbert Morrison‘s recorded […] eyewitness reports from the landing field, which were broadcast the next day. He is known for his famous emotional declaration “Oh, the humanity!”

A variety of hypotheses have been put forward for both the cause of ignition and the initial fuel for the ensuing fire. The event shattered public confidence in the giant, passenger-carrying rigid airship and marked the abrupt end of [that] era.

I read about this and the Titanic when I was a kid. I always wondered if it was started on purpose.
    AGAIN…the Waltons covered this also!

LOL! The Waltons discussed a lot.

Just like the USS Maine, there are still questions about the event.

Please don’t lick any tabletops. You might catch something worse than the flu. LOL!

Everything goes back to the Waltons! Johnboy was covering the landing.

I have to hold the urge to lick the tops! You know that I agree with most of it….I just don’t want to under sell it thats all.

Oh, yeah. That’s right. I forgot. The Waltons are set in the 30s. Well…DUH.

I cannot argue that any flu bug of any kind (and this is exactly what a “coronavirus” is…cold/flu) can be very deadly to anyone with a compromised immune system/underlying health issues…babies to the elderly (though, there is the case of the little boy with Cystic Fibrosis that survived it). No doubt. But, to quarantine the healthy? That has never happened. And, a doctor, who wants to help test for the virus, is being ignored? Something is very wrong, here.

Regarding New York overflows…Cuomo & Pataki (both sides of the aisle) have gone out of their way to have hospitals closed and merged. NY had a problem with bed shortages before this stuff happened. They are their own worst enemy. The Main Scream Media plays that to the hilt.

You mentioned teenagers gasping for breath. Might those teens be some of those that vaped? There was a massive vaping lung-damage situation just before this bug showed up.

No one likes to be sick. It’s not fun. But, I’m seeing an off the charts hysteria that is just not warranted here. If the MSM hypes it, I’m automatically suspicious.

The Waltons taught me a lot!

There is a hysteria made by the media…I agree totally with that. Things were not managed well either by the Media (conflicting instructions) or politicians who instead of working on the problem they are both trying to get elected and name calling…as far as the media along with politicians…I don’t believe any of them…the major networks, fox, ian…hell I won’t even capitalize them.

We don’t know about all of the teenagers…for sure and probably never will.

The reason I brought up New York…I had to talk to a lady today that lives there.

I wont lick any countertops….but I’ll wear a mask lol.

Switch gears for a second…you ever watch Columbo? I’ve been binge watching it.

I imagine the lady in New York was not happy with the overflow. Cuomo, in particular, had a bug up his ass about cutting Medicaid. If you have a breakout of any kind, be it measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough (I remember a breakout of that a decade ago or more) or a particularly bad strain of flu, a hospital shortage can be a big problem.

GOOD. No countertops or toilet lids for you (I saw, somewhere, a blip about a guy that was photographed licking a toilet seat after COVID showed up). If you need some money for rehab, we can set you up with a GoFundMe page. LOL!

I HATE masks. I can’t breathe. I do walk around with a bandana tied to my right thigh (if I’m forced to wear cover) but, I come out of that thing as soon as I’m outdoors. If I don’t have to, I’m not wearing it. Dragon wears his but, it’s solidarity. LOL!

              Heh. Shifting gears…

I haven’t seen Columbo in YEARS. I remember Mrs. Columbo (the future Captain Janeway). I also remember the NBC Mystery Movie Sunday night that featured that, McMillan & Wife and, McCloud. I can still remember the theme song (Henry Mancini):

No she had two relatives that died…She wasn’t happy on the way it was handled.

I’ve read where ventilators can actually hurt what is going on. What some doctors have said is they don’t really know how to treat it.
LOL…oh geez…that is soooo gross. Can I have permission to sound like a 12 year old girl? ewwwwww

LOL…I hate them masks as well…I only wear it in stores…that is it. I don’t use them outdoors… BUT if my allergies persists…I just might.

I love Columbo! I’m going to post about it Friday I believe. It’s a great show. He is very funny…and annoying if you are the murderer.
They had a crime “wheel” of shows they used.

This comment was NOT in my panel! GEEZUS.

How her relatives were handled or their response to COVID?

I’ve read that, too! Something about shoving in too much oxygen?

Sometimes, you can’t treat. It has to run its course…either the patient survives or they don’t (sorry…at this point, I’m right back to my CT material…death is a choice of the higher self).

When I saw the tongue touch the seat…I was gagging. *hack* I’m more like a seven year old…LOL! EWWWW!

The pollen has been brutal this year. I was at my local pet food store (small town, local place), standing in the doorway ordering stuff (they are doing curbside & delivery, only). I told the girl “I’m not sick. I’m gagging on pollen.”

I remember the “crime wheel”. LOL! How clever…

I just KNEW you were gonna do a Columbo post. I see more posts in the future regarding binge watching. LOL!

One went to the hospital and one didn’t go. The one that went was like 65 but the other one was like 40.

The pollen is terrible..since March it hasn’t stopped with me. Everytime I go out to a store or anywhere I can’t breath.

Yea no one saw Columbo’s wife at all. That show you watched wasn’t connected to it but they wanted people to tune in. I’m watching it now…3rd season 3rd episode lol…

I guarantee both of those relatives had underlying problems…known or unknown.

Ken & I have had yellow tinted trucks for a while. Wash it off, it returns.

Shoot. I’ve smoked, on and off, since I was 14. Stopped completely for 12 years with the ex-Marine, started back up around Ken (he smokes like a freight train) and quit, again, permanently, in 2016. Yoga has helped clear my lungs but, I was never a heavy smoker. I remember my ex…Bill…exclaiming “Why do you even bother? You can make a pack last a month!” LOL!

The reason I started was because a cute guy, upperclassman, asked me if I’d ever smoked before. I shook my head. He took a Marlboro Light out of his mouth and put it in mine. Naturally, I coughed after the first mini-drag. 😄😉

After that, it was peer pressure…some boredom… I still have no idea what a nicotine fit is. I smoked with my dad because it was something we could do together. My paternal grandparents smoked. My mom smoked some.

I had boyfriends that smoked. My ex-Bill smoked. I picked up smoking with Ken for a while. Now, I’m not interested anymore. Hell, I don’t have to…I’m swimming in secondhand smoke and I smell like an ashtray…everyday. 🙄🤨

Yep that is peer pressure… In high school when I played baseball I did dip like every other guy. That is the only thing I ever did.

When I was a kid I remember the car was full of smoke…I mean full.

I loved the smell of a pipe and cigar

Dip. Yeah. That was something I couldn’t do. Nasty. I do recall having a great-grandmother that liked snuff. You don’t see that anymore. I can’t imagine snorting powdered tobacco…precursor to coke, I suppose. LOL!

My buddy Karen tried doing the “pouch” dip when (I think) Skoal introduced it. She wasn’t a smoker (Sheree & Kim were). She said the menthol/mint (whatever) wasn’t bad. Yeck.

My dad had a variety of pipes. I loved the smell of the cherry blend. He kept it in a Tupperware container.

Cigars? My ex-Marine loved those. That is a STRONG smell. I have to be upwind of those things. Yeck, again. I have smoked the small cigars with the cherry blend tobacco in them…forget the name…had a plastic tip.

My 96 year old grandmother dipped Bruton Snuff…That stuff was basically powerder.

Dip is like a cigarette you want it after eating etc.

Pipes smell a hell of a lot better than smoking them…My old step dad smoked cigars…I loved the smell….tried them and couldn’t smoke them either….or pot…I just can’t smoke

Interesting you mention pot…I can’t smoke it, either. All my friends were into it and raiding the fridge. Me? It never made me hungry. It made me paranoid. I just wanted to hide in a closet and wait to become normal, again. I know THC has healing properties but, there is something about my body chemistry that prevents me from caffeine addiction, nicotine addiction, alcohol addiction, opioid addiction and enjoying the THC high. Organic chocolate, tho… That IS my one addiction. LOL!

THAT reminds me of the night before our grad trip to Myrtle. We were partying at Doreen’s house and I got stupid drunk on screwdrivers. Seventeen and stupid. Jodie was holding my head up out of the commode by my hair. She used to love telling that story. Damn if orange juice doesn’t sting like a mother going thru nasal passages…and vodka…and stomach acid…

So, yeah. I had the WORST hangover headed to grad week at the beach…and I was the one tasked with carrying the alcohol suitcase. I didn’t drink any until the last night we were there. I was the sober one at the beach. LOL!

then drank some beer…then…someone gave me whiskey and it tasted like water by that time..

I get History Channel emails for tips. The highlight for yesterday was the English Channel opening in 1994…or, rather, that was the header.

Interesting. If I have any German heritage, I don’t know about it. And, I’ve never been to New Jersey. But, I am a history buff and “Oh, the humanity!” 😄
