FOTD: Grape Hyacinth

Posted on Updated on

I had intended to post my museum pictures but, I’ve been too busy. So, it will be a Flower of the Day post for Cee Neuner’s Challenge. I thought this might be a Bluebell but, it isn’t. I’m still trying to identify it. ~Vic

Update: It’s a Grape Hyacinth!

Early blooming Hellebores. My leap year submission. The next one will have to wait for 2024. ~Vic

These things are pretty to look at but, you don’t want to step on one of them, barefooted. I’m always reminded of the Return of the Jedi sand monster Sarlacc. ~Vic

FOTD: Azaleas

Azaleas are usually Springtime visitors. Some of them, well, they are the late bloomers. This is a small bush on the First Baptist church property. ~Vic

FOTD: Tulips & Narcissus

A companion piece to an earlier post, the white Narcissus is a beautiful contrast. The telephone pole, not so much. I still don’t remember where the pix were taken. ~Vic

I think this is a Wingstem or Yellow Ironweed (Verbesina Alternifolia). If I am wrong, y’all speak up. ~Vic

I will have to figure this one out, later. ~Vic

Update: After much digging, I found this to be a Salvia Guaranitica or Hummingbird Sage.

FOTD: Tree of Lavender

Posted on Updated on

This is a tree on the church grounds. It’s huge and gorgeous. I have no idea what kind, though. ~Vic

Addendum: This is a Rhododendron, courtesy of Love in Australia. I would encourage anyone that needs assistance with figuring out what kind of flower they have to contact him:
Love’s Flower Identification Service.

It’s free, for the moment. That might change in the future. He is very, very good.

I haven’t a clue what kind of flower this is but, I will dig around and see what I can find.

Addendum: This looks very much like a Forsythia. ~Vic

This is a Chrysanthemum that I planted back in 2014. It must have been very happy where I put it because it was huge two years later. It finally gave up the next year. ~Vic

I was intending to do a Movie Monday but, I’m struggling with stuff older than 100 years. I will tend to that later. ~Vic

Addendum: With help from fellow blogger Love, the below photo is a Hellebore. Thanks, Love.

FOTD: Unusual

Posted on Updated on

Out on one of my walks, several of these happy things were poking out through the wrought iron fence. I haven’t the first clue what this is but, it’s flower-ish, I suppose. It is quite striking. If anyone knows what this is, SPEAK. ~Vic

Update: Thanks to my friend Love’s Flower Identification Service, this strange flower is a Euphorbia, or Spurge, which is the same family that Poinsettias come from. This particular variety is either an amygdaloides variant called ‘Robbiae’ or, a Redwing Charam, which is a hybrid of amygdaloides and martinii. I can’t tell. Thanks, Love!
