I have been in one for a road test. Back when I was an Examiner, I gave a road test to a guy with a really old 18-wheeler. It only had 10 gears and he was using it as a farm truck, only. No CDL required, just Class A. It was a fun ride. Class As don’t have to perform maneuvers.
Giving road tests in Firetrucks is no fun. Uncomfortable seats and the ride will beat you to death. Did a couple of those…
I only had two accidents. One kid backed over some concrete pylons on our across the street property and screwed up the underside of the vehicle. When working relief in another office/county, I had a kid back over a mailbox.
In his defense, that office was up in the boonies in a Virginia border county. There weren’t many places to do proper maneuvers. Everything in that area was skinny, rural, two-lane roads.
Maybe. More like teenage nerves. Many would really freak when I told them they could not use their backup cameras. Yes…you have to turn around and use the mirrors.
Before I left Texas in 2011, a co-worker of mine…guy named Mark…he was 16 mo.s younger than me (I may have mentioned him over the years…used to be a roadie)..he had already turned into the “get off my lawn” guy. He joked about it. And, that was back in 2011…

They knew they were there, as I warned them. They hit it anyway.
