Nah. LOL! Just bad drainage. This town sits on a very ancient Native American trading path. The Occaneechi/Occaneechi-Saponi and the Eno tribes thrived in this area…as well as the Cherokee in the western part of the state and the Croatan on the coast.
A local group has been trying to rebuild the site. The Occaneechi used to have pow-wows where the picture was taken. The town government has a way of making folks feel unwelcome or trying to siphon off money for gatherings. All governments exist to complicate everything they can get their hands on. Now, the major Occaneechi gatherings happen in my home county, next door, west.
The sunset is nicely framed! Seeing your comment above on the Occaneechi tribe and the grounds use for pow wows confirmed my thoughts when seeing your shot that it looked to be a very important, sacred area.

Thank you.
Yeah. It was very sacred at one time. The town continues to mess gatherings up. Hog Day has been nearly destroyed by the town council. They just can’t let people be.

This picture is beautiful and a little scary at the same time with that wall of sharp logs.
