Yeah. Lance Corporal & 2nd Lieutenant. A LCP (E3) is the highest rank of junior enlisted…Privates (E1) and PFCs (E2) take orders from them. Corporals (E4) are the lowest in the non-com rates.

Then, there is Sgt. (E5), SSgt. (E6) & Gunny (E7). After Gunnery Sgt., the ranks split. You can go technical (MSgt….my ex) or administrative (FSgt.)…both E8s. If you are a “lifer” with no problems, you can make E9…Master Gunnery Sarge (technical) or Sergeant Major (administrative). E8s & E9s frequently have pissing contests over power. My ex used to call the E9s “ROAD”s…”retired on active duty.” He said…”all they do is walk around, drink coffee and aggravate.”

It’s a weird thing. I met the Marine while I was still working in law enforcement. When we took off to Texas, it was some dumb luck that I wound up working for the Veterans Land Board…surrounded by veterans helping veterans. The majority of my working life has been law enforcement & the military-associated.

That last shot looks like my GPS in the early early hours of an ultra – “where in the hell is that confidence marker!?!?!?!”
