Amen to that, sister. I did trod with trepidation…no doubt.

This town has been a hotbed since the day it existed. At least they don’t hang people anymore (War of Regulation).

Yes a lot of interesting photos in that post.. You know any more I have become leery of large gatherings. Anything that can spark controversy of even the smallest kind -even a positive thing can spark idiots. .. for example every year on the courthouse steps- which is across the street from the library I work- there is for a couple days a bible reading. It’s right off the main street in town. I try to be a little more alert to things when that is going on.

I tread very cautiously. I watched the crowd AND LE. Anything can spin out of control. I stayed to the side and moved around the crowd.

There have been a series of events leading up to the rally. It was created as an answer to the KKK members that showed up, uptown and sat in front of the new courthouse. And, they showed up because of another issue prior to that. I hope it ended, yesterday.

Yes it seems like anything these days could lead to one nutjob showing up. Of course we can’t live our lives hid away in our homes. In the past couple decades I have just tried to be more alert to my surroundings…..

I’m glad it was ‘mostly’ peaceful, in general terms. The speakers were shouting like they were in a stadium. One woman (I never saw who she was) was just screaming into the mic. I tried recording it but, it came out as a screaming blur, even with headphones. I was cautious…with the participants AND with the local LE. You never know when some event can turn into a fur-ball.

This was a response/retaliation rally. There has been a series of cascading events that lead to this. And, there may be more. The county I live in is split between the northern folks outside city limits and the folks in the southern part that are associated with Chapel Hill/Carrboro/UNC. Hillsborough is the county seat but, the southern end of the county runs the politics and the rural folks don’t like what they see. Add to that, you have a chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans here and a fairly strong KKK group. The folks down south tend to lump the two separate organizations together.

Then…there’s the general mood of the country.

Yea with those rallies you just never which way the wind can blow.
Was it much news coverage? We had the kkk march in town once. It was not pretty… people were tossing things at them… no one got hurt but they have never been back.

Local news covered it. ABC11 out of Durham that I know of…probably all the surrounding stations, too…WRAL, WFMY, most likely Charlotte’s WSOC covered it. I passed by an ABC11 news vehicle but, that’s nothing unusual. They are here all the time since it is the county seat. Some folks posted pix on Facebook.

The KKK is just bad news all the way around. The stupid bastards co-opted the Army of Northern Virginia’s Battle Flag and turned it into a symbol of ugliness. The Confederacy had, what, seven flags plus the Bonnie Blue, the Van Dorn, the HQ flag, the TN 1st Corps, the Cherokee, the Gilliss, the Sibley and the Revenue flag:

Antifa is no better. Violent hate groups are a blight on society. There are better ways to handle things.

That group is bad news. I remember they all got pissed off when things were thrown at them…what did they expect? You show hate and that is what you get.
I didn’t know there were so many flags.
Violence itself should not be tolerated from any of these groups.
