Fifty-five years ago, today, the short, animated film Just Plane Beep was released. Produced by David DePatie & Friz Freleng and, directed by Rudy Larriva, Paul Julian was the uncredited voice of the Road Runner.

Synopsis from the Looney Tunes Fan Site (possible future broken link as Fandom is in the middle of a migration):

Wile E. Coyote chases Road Runner on foot but, Road Runner produces dust and runs off the side, smacking the coyote against a wall. While lying down on the ground, a paper for Acme War Surplus is blown towards the coyote and he sends a coupon in the mail. He receives a World War I bi-plane kit and plans to catch the Road Runner using it.

Needless to say, things don’t go well. ~Vic

Haha, I love this. And what a coincidence, as I’m working on a post for sometime next week, about roadrunners. I think I’ll include a link to this post, if you don’t mind.

      Hey. Great minds think alike!

I don’t mind. Link away. I appreciate it. I look forward to the post. At least you don’t play blogger games.

Where one blogger sets up a theme & then invites other bloggers to participate. Cee Neuner has the biggest following with FOTD or Flower of the Day (I used to participate but, changed to my own heading of FFTD). There’s “Prompts” where a blogger suggests one word and others write stories on that word, linking back to the original post. There’s Wordless Wednesday where you just post a picture. There are tags for storytelling. There are two British bloggers that do a lot of that, one of which does mock interviews with his dog. There is something called “Becky’s Squares”…which I have no clue about that. Then, there is the ever present “Blogger Award” where you are tagged, have to answer questions and then tag several others. There are many bloggers that do nothing original…just tags & prompts from other bloggers.

This is why I have an “Award Free Blog” notice on my site on the blogging side (doesn’t show up in the Readers or my landing page). I knew something was hinky when I returned to blogging after a four year absence and a random blogger liked a post, then proceeded to nominate me for a blogging award. Um, do WHAT? I’ve been gone for four years. WTF is a blogging award? Is there any money involved?

That stuff is a pain in the ass.

Now I know what you’re talking about. You’re right, I don’t participate in those blogger games. About five years ago I used to participate in a weekly prompt to write an impromptu short story, but I got tired of that.

I prefer to go with my own ideas. So far I haven’t had a shortage, but if I ever do run out of ideas, maybe I’ll do the prompt thing.

I never did get into doing awards. It seems phony, or kind of like chain mail, so I have an award-free blog also. Of course, if there was money involved, I might show some interest. But as you say, it’s just a pain in the ass.

I love this…I would watch them every Saturday Morning and love the inventions he would put together. When I was a kid I wanted him to catch him just once…just once…of course I never thought of the consequences then.
I also like the simple illustration of the plane.

All of those LT/MM cartoons are a damn scream. I loved watching Bugs Bunny/Road Runner or Bugs Bunny/Tweety shows. “Overture, curtain, lights… This is it…”

My father swore that there was one cartoon that he saw where Coyote actually caught Road Runner but, was so stunned that he did it, RR got away. I’d love to see that one…assuming my dad knew what he was talking about. Hell, those cartoons have been around since 1929. He very well could have seen it and it could be a lost film, now. Who knows.

        I loved that hour.
The one that was my least favorite was the Tweety and Sylvester cartoons. I don’t know why…I was hoping Sylvester would catch that little f*&king arrogant twerp or Tweet…
Lets see if we can find if he ever caught him…I’m going to google it…I think your dad is right…of course I’ve seen in MAD where he catches and eats him lol.

🤣 “I ‘tink he mad at me…” as Sylvester drags him off.

I wonder if it is somewhere in your usenet group.

I loved all the characters but, my favorite is Gossamer. He is like me…nothing but hair & hi-tops! 😆
