I love it! Nicely done. Is that the library or a book store? Either way, it is nicely done.

Hallmark…we were in Huntsville at a Hallmark store talking to them about it…we eventually chickened out.

Ah. Ok. I know there is a Huntsville, TX (maximum security prison there and Sam Houston State Univ.) but, I figured you didn’t mean Texas. I completely forgot about Alabama.

A space thing is down there…I forgot what. We used to go down there to get away in the 90s. The ONLY town in Alabama I have ever liked.

Tuscaloosa is nice. Roll Tide! One of my co-workers when I was an Examiner was from Alabama. I’ve stayed at a very nice motel right at the campus. Great town. Nice people.

Birmingham, I just drove straight thru.

You come down I-65 or come in on US431 for Huntsville? Then, I-24 & I-75 to Florida? Or, I-65 to US231?

I-65 most of the way until the bottom of Alabama and then you go through those crooked little towns looking for people going 1 mile over the speed limit.

Ken has talked about those towns. They were particularly bad in the 60s. He went back and forth a bit between Gulf Port, MS and NC. The one he remembered the most was a Georgia/Florida line town that would run you off the road and extort money before you could get across the line. Florida troopers knew what the deputies were doing.

We saw someone get stopped by a guy in a plain van…no markings…just threw a light up…I’ve heard about 300 dollar tickets…it’s a racket to get vacationers.

Yep. The deputies stood over the guys in the car and demanded $20 from each of them (there were four Navy guys) or threatened three days in jail. One guy was a bit of a smartass and said (as Ken recalled) “How about $10 and one night in jail?” He was overruled by the other three.

We entered a small Montana town in the Southeastern area. We were on a stretch of US212 (a road we dubbed “roadkill highway”), coming up out of Wyoming and entered a town where the speed limit goes from 55 to 25 with no warning whatsoever. We slowed down but, were stopped for being 7mph, over. Seven miles an hour… A large, white, extended panel van with Texas plates sticks out amongst the slow moving Montana locals. I don’t remember if it was a cop, deputy or trooper but, he wrote a ticket and said we had to show up for court. My ex said “We live in Texas. We will never make that.” I swear to you, that officer said “We take cash. Tickets are usually $40.” My ex handed him two twenties. The officer folded it up, put it in his pocket and said “Have a good day.” No receipt. My ex looked at me and said “I think we just went thru a shakedown.”

                      Uh-huh. Let’s get out of here…

MTDMV communicates with TXDMV. What happens after that, IDK. If you get an out of state speeding ticket and you are here in NC, NCDMV will suspend your license here until you take care of the other one (or ones).

Can they make you come back for a speeding ticket that is not reckless?

To my knowledge, speeding tickets are what are termed as “infractions.” They are not arrestable offenses.

As an addendum to what I typed, above, states may have discretion on communication but, I’m not totally sure about that. I got a speeding ticket in Texas in early 2011. It was never reported to NC even though I paid it off from NC, online. That could be due to the fact that the ticket was given to me while I was still a Texas resident with an active Texas DL but, when I moved there, I presented a Virginia license, not an NC one. They may not have had any idea that I’d had a TNDL or an NCDL. Plus, things were much different in 2002 and/or 2011 than they are now. My Texas speeding ticket may have shown up on my VADL record since it was the most recent previous one (depends upon the age of that record, too). Would all of that trace backwards to TN & NC? IDK.

We have a small town called Smyrna and Lavergne in TN…they would change the speed zones constantly and Smyrna had a drive through where you could pay the ticket in the 80s…it was such a scam…finally they were shut down.

                      Yea I don’t know either.

I have no idea what happened to my TNDL. Maybe I turned it into VA??? I have one printout of it but, not pictures on my computers. I turned my VADL into Texas. I still have my expired Texas DL and my really old 80s NCDLs. LOL!
