POTD: Glass Jar
Out on an evening walk, passing by a house with a stone wall, I saw this. I have no idea why it was there or what kind of liquid it holds. No, I didn’t taste it. ~Vic

Some times people put bottles of sugar, water and dish soap to lure and kill wasps. Definitely wouldn’t drink it.

Oh! Good to know.

The little flowers around it make me think it was a drinking vessel. Good EYE once more!
June 5, 2021 at 11:58 AM
Well it’s certainly not what they leave in jars and bottles around here.

I’m afraid to ask…LOL!

Be a thrill seeker Vic! Whats wrong with ya? Now I want to know what it is.

Jan, above, had a good suggestion.
June 10, 2021 at 11:03 PM
That could be it. I have to try that…I hate those things. I’m allergic to them
June 10, 2021 at 11:40 PM
Bee allergy in general or a specific wasp allergy?
June 10, 2021 at 11:41 PM
When I get stung…I swell up like a damn balloon…when I was a kid we had some every year in one spot and I was DASH to the door….and one bastard would get me on the ear lobe every year…
June 11, 2021 at 4:13 AM
Wow. Do you have an epi pen?
June 11, 2021 at 12:36 PM
No I don’t…I’m careful lol
June 11, 2021 at 1:56 PM
Yikes…
June 11, 2021 at 1:57 PM
My throat doesn’t close up or anything like that but it’s horrible….I got stung by yellow jackets one day and I was fine…it’s just wasps
June 11, 2021 at 2:11 PM
I got stung, repeatedly, as a kid on my grandmother’s farm…honey bees. Her neighbor was a bee keeper. I’d step on them in the yard…running around, barefooted. My grandmother would put tobacco on the wound and tell me the little bee went off and died. Luckily, I never once had a reaction.
June 11, 2021 at 2:20 PM
I don’t think I’ve ever been stung by one of those…or a bumblebee… they pretty much leave you alone…I hated sweatbees…fold your arm and boom
June 11, 2021 at 2:53 PM
I’m not entirely sure Bumbles can sting…or Wood bees. I can’t see a stinger. Not sure…
Bumbles were forever bouncing off my face. I would see them all over the Rose of Sharon bushes and go watch them. *boing* Right in my forehead, off my nose… I’d never seen a Wood bee until I moved here. They pollinate just like the others but, most folks don’t like them because they are the termites of the bee world. They are as noisy & funny as dirt-dobbers in a way. They all sound like Evinrude, to me, off of The Rescuers movie.
I also had June bugs getting stuck in my hair. My grandmother kept Japanese beetle pots, too.
Sweat bees would aggravate the shit out of you while cutting peaches, apples, corn… The damn Yellow Jackets would show up, too. Mean little bastards…
June 11, 2021 at 3:03 PM
Yea they bore into our back porch and we have set traps but they haven’t worked great.
I love June Bugs….we would tie a string to a June bug and they would be our kite…
I hate those dirt dobbers, yellow jackets, and hornets.
June 12, 2021 at 2:45 AM
We have locals that build Wood bee houses and sell them. It’s a mini-industry around here. And, growing up, I never saw a Wood bee in my home county, next door. Weird.
I’ve tied strings to June bugs, too! LOL!
Hornets, wasps and yellow jackets…yuck. I can remember my maternal grandfather dowsing their nests with gasoline and lighting them up. Dirt dobbers were messy with their mud tubes but, they weren’t particularly mean…as I recall.
June 12, 2021 at 10:09 AM
They are nasty…. I ran over a nest with a lawnmower…. they got me 6 times in the back…
those damn wood bees….can make Swiss cheese out of wood
June 12, 2021 at 5:20 PM
You ran over a yellow jacket nest?
Yeah. They bore to raise babies, hence all the wood bee hotels around here. Ken would try to kill them. I told him to stop because they are pollinators. We already have a suffering bee population. No need to make it worse. Re-direct the bees. Honey bees will form a colony in a house if the conditions are right. That’s when you call in the beekeepers.

Yes I did. Jennifer and Bailey had just left for West Virginia and I was mowing the yard…I had to go over to the neighbors and let her put some medicine on my back…it hurt and I got woozy for a while.

Yikes!
