With my paternal grandfather being a FF & dispatch, I was in firehouses as a little thing. My first five years of life, my parents lived next door to my paternal grandparents and, the firehouse was two blocks away and the railroad, yards away. When the train came by, the house shook and, in the summertime, the firehouse had the bay doors open. You could hear the tones going off when a call came in. My dad could tell you which firetruck was going out by the sound of the engine. When the TV show Emergency! debuted in 1972, it made me crazy. The tones at that firehouse on my TV were very similar to ours.

I love old firehouses…That is so cool …well I guess it would matter what time they came blowing through lol.
I wish trains were more popular today…I have ridden in a few.
You know, I have never ridden on a real train. The only train I have ever ridden on was at my City Park (you can see it and our Dentzel Carousel): https://www.burlingtonnc.gov/233/City-Park
Those trains came thru at any time. We didn’t get horn blowing at the house after about, oh, 1970? 1971? I was little but, I remember when Fisher Street (part of US70 that splits into two one-way streets thru downtown…Church & Fisher) was dug out under the rail line. Before that, you could drive over the railroad one block up from my house. They built a new trestle and severed that street up the block in two. The only horns we heard after that was when they crossed over Main St., south of us.
I know none of this makes any sense to you but, I’m remembering as I type.

We have a place in Tn called Watertown and they run one. At Christmas they call it the Polar Express and Bailey was that age that he enjoyed it…and we did also! I would love to travel a long ways on one…that would be fun.
No it makes sense. Tammy…my sister said mom and dad moved into a house beside the river and train track….and the train would come through at an ungodly hour and shake the house…same as what you talked about.
I like carousels…they are a little spooky and I like that.
I’d love to hop a train and do a cross-country thing. I don’t trust Amtrak but, I’d love a Europe/UK/Scandinavian train trip.
I remember being in the front bedroom at my grandmother’s, next door. The train would come thru, shake the house and I’d wake up just a bit. Growing up with that, you acknowledge it but, never really wake up.
There is a song that, when I hear it, I am immediately transported to riding that carousel as a kid…(Reach Out) I’ll Be There by The Four Tops. I hear that song, I’m on a moving hobby horse…every time.

I don’t know when this thing was designed but, it looks just like it did when I was a kid:
