POTD: Musk Thistle

Posted on

In the Asteraceae family, this is a Carduus Nutans. Other names are nodding thistle and nodding plumeless thistle. It has been deemed a noxious weed and is very invasive. This was in my yard and I wouldn’t advise stepping on one. ~Vic

    Quite a prickly plant.

It is a scary looking thing. You’d probably bleed to death if you stepped on one, barefoot. Yikes.

They hurt! Plus they are not on the pretty side…at least to me.

It also reminds me of the Sarlaac Pit.

I never understood the popularity of that character. Bailey knows all about him… and his friends but he was barely in the movie… well the 3rd on in order anyway

I didn’t either. I guess all the Mandalorian stuff on Disney+ gave more backstory. Just guessing…

You’re not supposed to step on it, you’re supposed to eat it! ;). https://wildfoodgirl.com/2019/eating-nodding-thistle-stalks/

They have the prettiest bloom (and are the thistle of Scotland), but OH are they invasive!

The above link that was given to me has some interesting information. I’m not sure I would want to eat one.
