I’m Done…For Now
I have been blogging since 2009, when I was living in Texas. WordPress used to be a great place blog. The format used to be really easy to use. That is not true, today. They have shoved the block editor down our throats. In order to keep the classic editor, you have to pay extra money. Even worse, if you want to tweak the settings on your (legacy) theme, you have to upgrade and pay more for that, to get the plug-in that returns your theme back to normal and not “blocks.” I’m tired of this crap. Don’t even get me started on what they have done to the Reader.
This isn’t fun, anymore. I have paid for another year, last month. My history will remain, until the money runs out. WordPress will, ultimately, delete a good portion of blog posts…unless you keep paying, in perpetuity. There is a graveyard of abandoned blogs all over WordPress. Besides my blog posts, I have a library of data from a, now, deceased psychic, Chris Thomas. I would encourage you to read his data, watch the videos and listen to the phone interviews. I also have a documentary on him. If you want to see it, I can provide a link but, it is copyrighted material and you can’t share it.
That’s about it. It’s so much easier to post pictures and talk to people on X (Twitter). WordPress has worn out its welcome with me. I have been hassled enough and I have paid enough. IF things change, I might return but…I doubt it.
I’m done. Goodbye.

That’s a shame as I always like your blogs. I do understand though. Good luck.

I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe you can just post once a month or so. I don’t know how much you are paying, but I only pay about $18 a year to have the badcatchris.com domain. If I quit paying, I think everything will still be there at badcatchris.wordpress.com.

I pay close to $100 because I needed the Classic Editor.

Wow! I just use the regular editor. I don’t have much trouble, but I just post text and photos.

That is me, too! I do not even know what the basic v. Classic editor does.

Classic editor is good for HTML programmers. It is a simple format that shortcuts code. I think the WP crowd created that block beast as a point & click thing.

I use the classic theme on mine…it works the well…I’ve never used block editor I don’t believe. I would not use it.

I’m sorry to see you go. Of course, at the end of the day, if you feel the platform doesn’t work for you, it’s probably the right decision. Alternatively, you could consider taking a pause and coming back, especially if you end up missing it. In any case, I wish you best of luck! 🙂

Whoa! I hate to hear this, but I can understand your frustration. I haven’t had time recently to do much more than start drafts I hope to publish someday. However, I can empathize with your position. I may find myself in the same boat if and when I get back to writing regularly. Take care, and give me a shout anytime.

sorry to hear that. I’ve never paid for anything but I do direct people to WordPress to read stuff and it crops up in google searches for people looking for information, so I’m hoping WordPress get ad revenue from me as I put a lot of info on here..!

Charlee, I do the same.
Chaplin…yeah, whatever that is.
Bean, I don’t understand that, either. Some people just like to jack with things.

Oh, I understand how WordPress (and blogging in general) has become less and less gratifying. I do not even know what all that stuff is. I just ignore any requests to upgrade. I post blogs. No pictures, no editing, nothing. It is more like a venting tool for me. My cost? $0.00 . You will be missed. 🙂

Thanks. I am a former web programmer. They have gone out of their way to over complicate stuff. The fact that I can’t even update/tweak my own theme without that damn block editor…it is a mess. If I want to update my theme without messing with that block editor, I have to upgrade & pay more money for a “classic theme editor” plug-in. The older, retro stuff has been sidelined in lieu of the block sh*t. Don’t even get me started on how they have f***ed up the Reader, online AND on the phone app. The app is a jacked up mess, too.

Could be but, it sounds like a “blogophobe” would mean “don’t like to blog.”

Sorry to hear Vic, but I can completely understand. As you know I have had my troubles as well with the WordPress services and so far I’ve been able to get around most of my grievances. I do now have to like and read on Firefox as I usually do, but then have to move over to Chrome if I want to actually make a comment as Firefox cannot maintain my credentials between liking something and commenting on something. Like you, I’ve well versed in IT and with the troubles I have had to conquer, I am shocked that those not steeped in the technology could ever make it through. You are officially the 3rd person this year that has left the platform out of frustration. Take care and hopefully you’ll be able to check in at Intrigued from time to time so we can keep in touch.

Thanks, Brian. I have been blogging with Brave, a Chrome clone. Plus, I hack out stuff on an aging HP Win7 laptop. I purchased a new HP but, the NEW operating system is ass backwards from Win7. Much has changed. I have, now, become a legacy and may have to get outside help. But…that does not have a damn thing to do with WP & its entrenched nightmare/money pit. Many years ago, Netscape was the best browser. Mozilla went nuts and jacked up all of their stuff, including screwing up Thunderbird. I used to love tweaking things. Now, everything is over produced & bloated, WP, included.
I will be checking in. I still read. I will be around, dear.

Hey Vic, sorry to read your post, but I do totally get what you’re saying, and I think I am there too. I’m paid until February. I don’t plan on renewing. I just started back up after taking the summer off, and I had to relearn things to get to my classic editor to get up two posts, it was frustrating. I am not computer savvy and am tired of all the WP frustations, including trying to like and leave others comments that won’t load. My bird photos are on eBird and I am presently looking into iNaturalist and Maryland Biodiversity Project to further share my photos for research and data records. Diverting my ‘work’ to education and research (free) vs. WP (cost!) sure sounds like a better way for me to leave my bird stamp on this world. 😉

Girl, I hear ya’. WP costs too much & is now too complicated to work. I miss the old WP, before the “happiness engineers” screwed up everything. I might look into Substack. I will look for you on eBird & iNaturalist.
Even the phone app is messed up, too.

Sorry to see you go too, Vic. I’m just a low level user (since 2013) I just bang up an image, add a short smart arse text and go home for tea. I dont pay for any of it and I dont have much trouble with the system, but that’s maybe because I am not doing a lot with it.
I certainly have noticed many other bloggers giving up over the last few years as my viewing numbers have dropped but my main purpose is to support my website selling paintings and as wordpress holds a big back catalogue of my work it works for me – one lady got in touch this year to enquire about something I put up in 2014 and it resulted in a sale.
Best of luck Vic, I should be around for another 10 years at my present data usage rate so drop in occasionally.

Graham, I have you on my notices list. I love all of your work…except the nudes and what few abstracts you do. Not my thing. I have always had the intention to buy some of your art work, particularly the canal boat images. I just haven’t had the spare cash.
I love blogging but, WP engineers have messed it all up. I am not paying a $300 upgrade to get a plug-in that allows me to update my legacy theme. I should already be able to do that but, all themes are pretty much tied into the block editor. They want you to pay more to side step that awful editor, when I should have legacy access to MY original theme.
Don’t even get me started on what they have done to the Reader, phone app & in a browser.
Thanks, Graham. I will be around.
