Worm Moon 2020

Last year, the Full Worm Moon coincided with the Vernal Equinox. This year, the Worm Moon will be at full illumination at 1:47pm, today. I got some shots of it, earlier (actually, wee hours of the morning).
I did a complete write-up on the Worm Moon on my 2019 post with all of the interesting and varied Native American names. This year, our Worm Moon is a Supermoon, though that isn’t really a true and official ‘astronomical’ term. It’s more of an astrological description and, apparently, was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle. The technical term is perigee syzygy, with perigee referring to the closeness of the Moon to the Earth and syzygy referring to a straight-line astronomical configuration of three celestial bodies. Depending upon that configuration, there might be a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse. Supermoons also bring higher tides. This Moon is the last full moon of Winter. Howl for me! ~Vic

Wonderful photos. Sadly no moon here. Just rain.
March 9, 2020 at 8:54 PM
Thank you!
I never like it when it is so overcast, I can’t see.
March 9, 2020 at 10:54 PM
the photos through the trees are just outstanding Vic
March 10, 2020 at 12:45 AM
Tank you, tank you… 😀
The third shot looks like the tree has hands.
March 10, 2020 at 9:21 AM
I love how the moon glows…those trees give it perspective.
It does…
March 10, 2020 at 2:09 PM
Well, the glowing part is my phone. If I had a proper camera, you could see the moon craters. Samsung just gives you a big ball of light.
March 10, 2020 at 2:38 PM
It does add something though…it gives it a horror movie look…I like it.
March 10, 2020 at 2:53 PM
Thanks. It works for the spooky aspect. But, it just blurs the moon. I can snap a shot of a half moon in the daylight & my phone will turn it into a glowing ball. 🙄
If I had the money, I would have a Nikon. I’ve had an HP camera & a Fujifilm camera. Both sucked…out loud.
And, sadly, pretty soon, my S7 is gonna fail. It is already showing signs. It can’t handle all the software updates. I cringe at the thought of getting ANOTHER phone.
Can we just go back to kitchen phones with long cords & answering machines?
March 10, 2020 at 2:59 PM
I with you on that. A green phone with the rotary dial with the curly cord…that works for me. Nope we want the modern swiss army knife that does everything.
I still have an iphone 6…I haven’t upgraded yet to a newer one. I’ve had it ever since 7 came out. I always stay one behind.
March 10, 2020 at 3:16 PM
I was thinking the gold slimline but, 70s green works. I still remember my maternal grandmother’s black rotary on a party line.
I can’t do Apple products. Jobs just had to be anti-IBM everything and proprietary as fuck. Apple is twice as expensive as everything else. An Apple II was my first programming job in HS. Once I got to college, time rolled backwards and everything was mainframe with terminals and punch card machines. Apple was a pioneer but, damn…the arrogance. Plus, Apple downshifting older phones to force users to upgrade? Assholes.
My first government job trained me into the Microsoft insanity. I guess that is how Gates got his bazillions.
March 10, 2020 at 8:39 PM
I don’t like Apple anything but iphones. I’ve had one while many of my co-workers have went through several Androids. I’m NO Apple fan but the iphones are good.
The typical Apple users I have met are arrogant about Apple. I worked at a print shop as a graphic artist…I had to work on a Mac and a PC…the Mac people would come in and demand their files not to be placed in the pc…BAD thing to say to me…because in they went.
I’ll take harvest gold also. I remember party lines.
Gates has grown richer now because he leases his software instead of selling it. It sucks for us the users.
March 11, 2020 at 12:21 AM
My buddy Dave in Texas bought an Apple laptop, like, over a decade ago and it was around $2,500 even back then. Holy crap.
My buddy Ray bought one about six years ago. I went shopping with him. Everything about it is ass backwards from Microsoft. I do understand that Apple is not subject to the same viruses as Windows as it is a closed system?
I have classmates with iPhones and they act arrogant about them. Not to mention, texting with them is annoying. Every emoji they use texting…shows up in SMS as “such and such liked this”…”such and such laughed at this”. We are using phone numbers, not Messenger. This ain’t Facebook. Would you stop, please. Androids will give a thumbs up or facial emojis but, no likes and no laughs. I wind up with all of these extra text lines with my iPhone classmates. I want to slap ’em. LOL!
I read something not too long ago that Microsoft won’t sell operating system software, anymore. They will sell computers and “services”. Win10 isn’t a real operating system. It is a “service”. All of our computers in the house are desperately hanging on to Win7. I dread switching over.
March 11, 2020 at 7:43 AM
Yea with some viruses they are not affected but people write viruses just for Apple lol.
They are stupid high…the laptops.
I’m just glad they are realible that is the reason I get them. I don’t use emojis so I’m in the dark about that. I did notice that last week though when someone from work texted me.
I hate that services crap…It’s made Bill richer and richer…we should all switch to Linux.
March 11, 2020 at 2:29 PM
Intentionally writing a virus…hm. There are creators of good…and creators of bad.
Everyone is FakeBook trained. And, the crap migrated over here. I was shocked when the ‘likes’ showed up on WP. The thing about blogging is, if you set up your website verification so the bots & spiders find you, and index you, you will get followers, eventually, whether they have their own blogs or not. Then, there is your hit counter… I know I have readers with or without these stupid likes. I read my stats. I routinely get blog contacts from folks that want to know more about the Chris Thomas material or thank me for having everything in one place.
I agree. Many years ago, me and my ex-marine tried to switch from Microsoft to Linux. This was the middle 2000s and the GUI was not that great. I wish Linux was more popular here in the states but, Gates & Jobs pushed them to Europe. Most of the folks I talk to in Europe are either Linux people or IBM. One of the most stable platforms I ever worked on was OS/2. I miss those days. Instead of people using computers as tools, they drove the industry to make them entertainment…hence all the jacked-up Flash and scripting…and viruses.
And, bring back well made mechanical stuff. I have a GE washing machine that is more computer than mechanical beast. It is a piece of crap. There was a time when, if a washer got unbalanced with a wad of clothes, it just walked….but, it still spun. Now, if it gets the slightest little bit off balance, it stops spinning, fills back up with water and tries to reset itself by going thru another cycle. I’ve seen it do that three times and, if it can’t spin the water out because the computer won’t let it walk if unbalanced, it just stops. Not only does it waste water, filling up over and over, you can wind up with clothes that are still full of water after it gives up on round three. I wish I had my paternal grandmother’s Whirlpool with the up and down agitator. That thing ran for 30+ years before giving up the ghost. By then, Whirlpool stopped making washers.
Sorry. Went off on a tangent…
March 11, 2020 at 3:39 PM
I use likes as a tool to mark whether I’ve read something.
Linux isn’t bad now. I would love to change. I tried to talk my current company into going there but they would not…they loved the cost but the users were spooked.
Dont get me started on appliances. We bought a new dishwasher that last no time…one of the best ones at the time. I got pissed…and saw a 90s model at a remodel place…got it and it has been great…cleans better than the other. I see on youtube…60s and 70s models are still in action…they were made with real parts.
Rant on!
March 11, 2020 at 8:27 PM
I can remember my maternal grandmother complaining about how all the sewing machines went to plastic parts. Well made, metal-parts machines…you don’t sell many because they last if you keep them oiled. They changed to breakable/replaceable plastic parts and made money on “service”. Pissed my grandmother off.
I’m going to start looking for a used, older washing machine. This is ridiculous.
The same idea goes for vehicles. A well made vehicle…after a while, everyone has one. Hard to sell more esp. with shade-tree mechanics…anyone could do the maintenance. So, install computers and other complications (like making it impossible to change spark plugs without removing the damn engine) so only “trained professionals” can do the work…not the owner. Charge outrageous fees for “servicing”.
March 11, 2020 at 9:07 PM
We have a commercial blender from 1969…I swear to you Vic that it would mix iron lol.
We will replace with older also. The only thing we bought new to replace something that went out was our microwave above our stove. The main reason is leakage on the older ones.
Our washer is computerized also…when it goes we will get an older one.
Cars are even more so. We have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler before it went all computer and I will not get rid of it. If the engine goes out anyone can just drop another one it. It has plenty of room under the hood for working on it.
March 11, 2020 at 11:49 PM
LOL! I hear ya’. You will have to send me a picture of a 1969 blender.
In the case of microwaves, I won’t have one of those. Not only the leakage but, what it does to the molecules of your food? Yeah. No. Worst things ever invented to heat food. Warps molecules, destroys enzymes…yuck.
I would love to have an older Wrangler. The CJs, not so much…too prone to tipping over. The new trucks are badass but, DAMN the computerized mess all over the dashboard. And, none of them are a stick.
I intend to keep my 2008 Frontier. I will NEVER own another “new” vehicle.
March 12, 2020 at 9:09 AM
I will send a picture soon…it is awesome looking. It’s an Oster or something like that.
You know what the microwave is used for? In our house to work warm up Jennifer’s coffee…that is almost it….and yes popcorn for me!
I loved my Mini Cooper but didn’t love it when it had to be repaired. I’ll get an older car next…The three newer cars I’ve had since 2008 have all leaked coolant…all of them after around 3 years.
I want an older car or truck…and I’ll keep my jeep.
March 12, 2020 at 1:01 PM
We have one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/popcorn-pot/s?k=popcorn+pot
Microwave popcorn is pure poison. Haven’t you read about not inhaling the fumes from that stuff? Go to YouTube & type in Microwave Popcorn Toxicity. Popping organic corns in the stovetop pot with REAL butter? SO much better. Only takes a few minutes… Seriously.
I wouldn’t dare drink microwaved coffee. Twisted molecules…🤮
I remember you talking about your Mini. Another blogger had one. She mentioned the same high bills. She loved her’s, too. They are adorable. I saw one on the highway on Monday that looked like a Mini had mated with one of the little Audi sportsters. It was a Mini but, resembled the Audi.
I wish I had my 1985 Celica or my 1991 Talon or my 1999 F250 back. 😖
March 12, 2020 at 1:09 PM
I’ll take a look at the microwave stuff…We do have a popper…it’s a pain at times to use…I don’t eat as much popcorn anymore because it irritates something in me now. Not too bad but enough.
I don’t drink coffee at all. I drink tea.
I loved my Mini Cooper. Next to my old Mazda RX7 it was the most fun to drive. I would floor it around curves.
They cars I would want back… 84 RX7, 83 Celica Sports Coup, 66 Mustang…and the Mini Cooper
March 12, 2020 at 1:23 PM
If you have intestinal issues, popcorn will irritate.
Heh. I drink both…organic teas & organic decaf coffee.
I remember 84 RX7s well. Our Head Cheerleader had a black one.
Your 83 Celica coupe had the headlights that popped forward, yes? My 85 was when they made them pop up. When the weather got really cold, she would pop up her own headlights. LOL!
March 12, 2020 at 5:43 PM
Now my RX7 had the pop up lights but not the Celica sports coup…Ok I could have sworn it was 83 but alas…no it was 81. It had the two square lights on each side…it was red with two racing stripes down it. I got it in 85…
I loved the pop up lights on the RX7
March 12, 2020 at 1:51 PM
I had an ST version with plain wheels:

Mine was Metallic Gold.
Was yours like this:
https://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2007/08/13/18/32/1981_toyota_celica_st_coupe-pic-9642-1600×1200.jpeg
This is pretty badass, too.
March 12, 2020 at 2:43 PM
Yes the bottom one…cherry red with black racing stripes down the hood…I loved it. Never gave me a bit of trouble.
March 12, 2020 at 2:58 PM
They were so well made back then. I also had this after the Celica:
https://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2008/05/30/00/07/1991_eagle_talon_2_dr_std_hatchback-pic-22759.jpeg
This photo is awful but, it is the best representation of mine. The rims are correct & it isn’t a TSi turbo. Mine was gold with a black racing stripe going across the cam scoop side of the hood and down the back bumper. My vanity plate was SHRPTALN. LOL! Still have that. It ran like a scalded dog…5spd.
March 12, 2020 at 3:17 PM
Thats a sharp looking car. I love the curve of the top.
Yea I’m a guy but I normally like “cute” cars lol…can’t help it. Mini and the RX7 are good examples.
March 12, 2020 at 8:06 PM
Hey. Nothing wrong with liking sports cars, which is basically what they are. Plus, you have a Wrangler. Besides, a Mini is nothing but a squished Vette. They corner the same.
March 12, 2020 at 8:08 PM
That RX7 corner pretty well also…but nothing was better than the Mini. It would also put your head in the back with the tork it had. The RX7 was the fastest car I ever owned.
March 12, 2020 at 8:24 PM
Ditto my Talon.
March 10, 2020 at 8:54 AM
Beautiful!!! It is amazing how it lights everything up.
March 10, 2020 at 2:06 PM
It certainly does! 🌚💖
May 9, 2020 at 6:29 PM
Very good photos. Don’t u hate when powerlines get in the way. Happens to me all the time.
May 9, 2020 at 7:56 PM
Thank you!
Yeah. The blasted things are everywhere.
