VOTD: Sgt. Kitten Takes Point

***This is a repost as I try to repair the damage to my site.***

Video of the Day

This was originally posted on June 9. I uploaded the video to WordPress, only to have it malfunction in the Reader. The “Pro” Plan was a complete disaster, which is why it isn’t available, anymore. The server migration that was being done for the “Pro” Plan made crazy echoes of uploaded videos, as all the previously listed links in posts were broken. I have several posts with videos, stuck in my Reader, that won’t play and, even after I delete the post, the echo of the post remains in my Reader feed. Way to go, Happiness Engineers!

I will be deleting & reposting all of my damaged posts…and cursing, loudly. ~Vic

You certainly have had a lot of issues with WP – I am still fighting issues with commenting on a few sights (nonce errors), but for the most part have been pretty lucky.

Did you ever choose the “Pro” plan? I *was* on “Premium.” I moved from that, as an upgrade, because I wanted the “Classic” plug-in. I despise that Gutenberg Editor. When they rolled out “Pro”, they made “Personal”, “Premium” & “Business” into legacy plans. That blew up in their faces. After a few months, I discovered that “Pro” had been shuttered and the other plans suddenly showed back up. “Commerce” was never changed.

I could have easily stayed with “Premium” but, they made it clear that, the Gutenberg Editor would take over all blogging in 2022, unless you got a plug-in. Plug-ins are not available in “Premium.” “Pro” showed up as an upgrade and…it was nightmare city after that. Video uploads used to be “wpvideo” with an alpha-numeric code attached. Now, they are “videopress” with alpha-numeric code attached. When they did a server migration for the “Pro” plan, all the uploaded video links broke. All of my old posts that are “wpvideo” links are now stuck, in various ways, in my Reader (browser & phone app).

Never went with Pro and I absolutely hate their upgraded editor – added at least 30 minutes to every one of my posts as I use our gallery up on smugmug to hold all of our images and I used to be able to whip through that with the old one, now it is a bunch of steps and then I tweak the html when I need to which throws it all off until I revert back to classic blocks.

Yeah. See. Those blocks are a giant pain in the ass. I am thankful for the Classic Editor plug-in.

Here is another example of where “wpvideo” was broken when they switched to “videopress.” I’ve got a stuck picture in the Reader, instead of the actual uploaded video. It seems to work OK on my actual site but, the post transition in the Reader is f***ed! Another one I will eventually have to delete and repost.

Here is a perfect example of a deleted post with an uploaded video echo that is stuck.

The video is lovely. Your WordPress challenges sound less than that. Frankly, I’ve been considering switching from my current all-free version to a premium plan. Did you ever use the all-free version before you switched to your premium plan and, if yes, were there any issues?

I have had two blogs, one dating back to 2009. I shut it down in early 2013 and created a new one a few months later. Back then, my first one was free. WP was very different back then. You didn’t have like stars and leaving a comment functioned more like an email. When I started working with my second blog, it was still free and…honestly, I don’t remember why I signed up for Premium. That was many years ago. I am on a Business plan, now, after the Pro plan fiasco. The only issue I ever had with Premium was the fact that, I knew, eventually I’d be forced into the Gutenberg editor. The deadline was 2022. I despise those blocks. I hack out my own HTML and I have been working with the Classic Editor since 2009. The only way, now, to use Classic is with a plug-in. There are no plug-ins with Premium.

I finally got my ads back…when I did I made a whopping 5 cents a day…I emailed again and they said they have now taken me off the black list…My spike was 120 views in a day and after that it was back down. That is not a spike…it’s ebb and flow.
