Of WordPress, Gallbladders & Twitter (X)

Hmmm…where to start… After a long absence, I am returning to my blog. WordPress Happiness Engineers have lost their freaking minds. I still operate in the “Classic” editor. I will NEVER use that nightmare of a “block” editor.

Suddenly, I have these strange, white squares and a “Plus New” symbol.

I have also had to adjust my Admin Interface Style in General Settings. WP-Admin in the Classic style does not support the “Add New Post” drop-down I need to get to the Classic Editor. I can only get it in Default style. Can things get MORE confusing, here??? I SO miss the days when WordPress was EASY to use. Now, it is a giant PITA. I spent an hour trying to get a “Happiness Engineer” to explain to me WHY everything is so jacked-up. Has anyone noticed how screwed up the Reader is?

I have been gone so long that, I am having to re-learn how to blog. With all the changes, I am struggling to deal with this insane labyrinth. My absence has been due to my Significant Other needing assistance on a grand scale…and me, still battling my gallbladder. He is improving and I am…slowly.

In July of last year, I joined Twitter (X). Bastion of free speech, they said. Everyone has a voice, they said. Right. At the moment, I have been locked out of my account for six days. Want to know why? I apparently threatened YouTube with the word collapse. Musk stated in a post that he was building a YouTube alternative. It sounded good to me. I reposted his announcement and all I said was “@YouTube, you censor too much. I hope you collapse.” Bells went off, sirens started wailing in the distance and blood began to weep from the walls of my house. I was told that I had used violent speech. How in the AF could I possibly be a threat to YouTube??? *facepalm* I am supposed to be freed from my bird cage in a few hours. SMDH. I will continue to lurk, read & share my blog posts but, there won’t be any other engagement. It’s better than FakeBook, which I left years ago. I do still use Messenger.

Later…~Vic

So glad you are back! Don’t expect fairness from social media platforms.

YAY!! You are back! I’m with Cindy—never expect fairness from any social media. Oh, I still use the Classic on WordPress that block style is terribly annoying!

Hey, Mama! Twitter/X serves a purpose but, unless you PAY, small accounts get no assistance. Plus, Elon’s Lieutenant, Linda Yaccarino is a WEF plant. She is into that “free speech but, limited reach” & “lawful but, awful” shadow-banning.

I will NEVER use that block editor.

      Love you!

“I was forced to switch to the new WordPress editor, which has significantly limited my ability to create visually appealing content. Features like videos and drop caps are no longer as easy to use.

But at my advanced age, I don’t really care to make my blogs “pop” anymore, and I simply write in MSWord and paste the content, then manually insert the graphics.

I never was much of a user of twitter or X. But some of my favorite writers post links to their latest works. Facebook has restored my family to me after years of rancor, so I will keep it in spite of the pencil neck geek.

Glad to see you are blogging again. I have very painful remembrance of the onset of gall bladder problems, and you have my sympathy.

How much do you pay to blog? I have the “Premium” account…$8 a month. Premium allows the drop down choice of Classic editor or Block editor. I will never use that block mess.

I got on Twitter in the early years. That was back when WP had an API hook into it. I never could figure a reason to use it. It was clunky and following anyone was boring. I abandoned my account for a few years, then, finally deleted it. When Elon took over & the Twitter Files came out, I returned. Everyone said “free speech warrior.” In large part, he is for free speech but…he has old Dorsey holdovers that routinely screw with the algorithm. There are channels that repost each other over & over, again and smaller accounts don’t stand a chance. Elon did help Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson & Trump.

so hope things keep on improving for you both. ❤️. Don’t start me on the editor, it’s more like trying to use the Terminator to get anything posted.

Thanks, Gary. It has been quite the haul.

I pay for the “Premium” package…$8 a month. I have to have the “Classic Editor” drop-down. I will never use that Block Monster. It makes no sense at all.

Lulu: “Our Dada finally gave in and started using the block editor a while ago and now that he has gotten used to it he likes it a lot. On the other hand, WordPress keeps moving stuff around and making it harder to do things. He says he used to be able to switch between our blog and his blog with just one click and now it takes at least three, in different places all over the screen, which he finds super annoying.”
Charlee: “I have a solution for that.”
    Lulu: “What is it?”
Charlee: “Stop doing his blog and just do ours. Problem solved!”
Lulu: “Somehow I don’t think he’s going to go for that.”
Oona: “Oona is sorry to hear about the health troubles you have had there, but she is glad to hear that things are improving.”
Java Bean: “We dogs send lots of tail wags your way.”
Chaplin: “And we cats send lots of purrs!”

Lulu, your Dada is correct. Word Press does keep moving things around. I think the Happiness Engineers are all drunk and are just randomly pushing buttons.

Charlee, you may have a point.

Oona, thank you, sweetie. My Ollie says thank you, too.

      Bean, most appreciated.

Chaplin, thank you. Ollie purrs back, too.

      Love you guys…

Welcome back Vic, hope everything is going better on the health side now. I have had a long sordid history of problems with WordPress every since I abandoned my own instance of it thanks to GoDaddy wanting to charge me $400+ for an SSL cert. Now I am at the mercy of others and as an IT guy, do not like that! Resigned myself to using that stupid block editor which has added at least 30+ minutes of wasted time on every post and I still have to go in an modify the source code to make it look the way I want it to. But the best thing, welcome back.

I have a Premium package @ $8 a month. It will let you get the toggle button (for posts) and you can return to the Classic Editor. So, you used to blog with a GoDaddy set-up?

I have been IT, more or less, since I was 17. Started out on Apple IIs in HS (BASIC). Went to a local CC & did mainframe work (with CANDE), punchcards, COBOL/VTOC, Fortran, Assembler, RPG… Got tired of the college scene and I just went to work. After years of being Admin., I got into databases. Then, I got into HTML programming, Dreamweaver, CSS, Javascript… I’ve grown weary of being a data-head. As I have aged, I lost more than I remember. If you don’t use it, you lose it.

      Thank you, dear.
