Five years ago, today, the #1 movie at the box office was Jigsaw. Directed by the Spierig Brothers (identical twins Michael & Peter) and, written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldberg, it starred Matt Passmore, Tobin Bell (as Jigsaw), Callum Keith Rennie, Hannah Emily Anderson, Clé Bennett, Laura Vandervoort, Paul Braunstein, Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen, Josiah Black, Edward Ruttle, Michael Boisvert and Shaquan Lewis.

Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one suspect: John Kramer, the man known as Jigsaw, who has been dead for over 10 years.

IMDb Summary

The plot follows a group of people who find themselves forced to participate in a series of deadly “games” inside a barn. Meanwhile, the police investigate a new series of murders that fit the modus operandi of the eponymous Jigsaw Killer, who has been dead for almost a decade.

Trivia Bits:
♦ Tobin Bell stated that he was not interested in having John Kramer appear alongside other slasher horror icons in future films.
Previously called “Saw: Legacy”, the title changed to “Jigsaw”, making it the first film to have Tobin Bell’s character’s name displayed in the title.
♦ The tagline for the film “Make America Bleed Again” derives from the motto instilled by a former president of the United States: Donald Trump, who inserted the mantra in his electoral speech “Make America Great Again”.
♦ The John Kramer fan site to which Eleanor Bonneville is a frequent visitor is entitled “Jigsaw Rules”.
&diams This is the first “Saw” film to feature a laser-related trap.

Honestly, I’ve never seen a “Saw” movie and have never wanted to. Blood and gore torture movies are not my choice for a good movie. It’s hard to watch, peeking out from behind the couch. ~Vic

I have never been a fan of horror movies.

I caught the original 1980 Friday the 13th today. AMC is all things scary this month. I was only 13 when it was released and too young to watch it…not that I would have, anyway. Watching it, today, I was struck by how very non-gory it was, in comparison to stuff, today. It is really tame.

I was too young to see The exorcist when it came out but her and people were actually throwing up in the movie theater. When I finally did rent the movie actually found it quite humorous.

In retrospect, as an adult, many horror flicks from the 70s & 80s are kind of funny. There is one old movie that I never want to see, despite it being from 1982…The Entity, supposedly based on true events.

I don’t think I ever heard about that one. I have become very picky about the kind of movies I like to watch. I don’t like horror movies I don’t like movies about the mob and I don’t like comedies where something bad happens to the main character throughout the first 90% of the movie.

              I wouldn’t recommend it…too much rape material.

I am very picky when it comes to comedies. I am not into slapstick or silliness…sight gags and such. I lean more towards sarcastic humor.

Mob movies tend to be more violent, too.

One genre I do love is Sci-Fi.

I like sci-fi too. I don’t know how to describe the comedies I like but examples would be The Blues Brothers, Animal House, Airplane, Beverly Hills Cop, and Austin Powers.

I seem to lean more towards British humor. The last comedy (TV Show) that had me in stitches was Coupling (not the American version). I’m trying to remember the last comedy movie I enjoyed…🤔🤨

Paul Hogan had an Australian show like Benny Hill many years ago. I can remember reruns as a kid, being imported to the US.

I suppose I should be embarrassed… no hoes?
It’s supposed to be “no goes”.
Oh well, too quick on the click and slow on the editing. ***sigh

Nightmare…the original with Johnny Depp, I might could watch. Hellraiser, the Saw movies and Hostel…no. I do not find graphic torture entertaining.

You know…this one wasn’t a normal slasher movie. I don’t like those…this one was smart and just as much of a thriller/mystery than horror. I actually liked this one.

Yes…like I said it was different. I would count it as a thriller in some ways.

I don’t mind horror movies but get turned off by over-the-top violence. This pretty much applies to any genre of film. In general, I feel the best movies are characterized by great plots, great acting and great camera work work, not violence and special effects.

I love me some good horror movies – unfortunately we have been subjected to a lot of dime-store sequels as of late (hollywood out of creative ideas.. rehash the old). Haven’t seen this one – will check it out – thnx

Yeah. *sigh* Most “reboots” are all “woke.” I have been digging around for old stuff, which can be hard to find.

I REALLY miss the old Sunday night TV movies…or any other day of the week. You know, the well written movies with TV actors, not the big superstars, were in? The only thing that paid for them were advertisers, not theatre tickets.

I remember watching those with my dad. Stuart Townsend didn’t do a bad remake.

Do you remember Michael Nouri as a vampire in 1979? Cliffhanger series…

Hmm, seems to have lost my comment – just in case it did escape the wire, I am right with you. When I was a kid I loved the Night Stalker TV series with Darren McGavin – cheesy, but scared the crap out of me. Night Flier movie still gives me the creeps.
